This was my first 5.0. It was also the first motor I ever put together. I used my stock short block and cam, and add a set of TFS Street Heat heads, a GT-40, and 1.7 rollers. I followed with a used ProM 77, 24LB injectors and got the car to go 12.9's @ 107MPH in street trim. I was happy, and drove the car for a couple of years with this set up. But then I really got the drag racing bug, and since this was more of a road race car, I decided to sell it and look for a coupe.
Well the magazine didn't scan too well, but I think you get the idea. MM&FF ask their readers to send in burn out pictures. We used two 5.0's instead of one. By the time we were done we had a burnout for the ages. Even though we did the burnout in a very secluded area, where my friend lives, when we were done his neighbors were all running over because they thought his house or back yard was burning.
We roasted the tires for a solid three minutes, and when we were done there was nothing left. I know its hard to tell because the scans are so poor but if you look closely at the bottom picture, you'll see my car is gone, you can't see any part of it. I literally had to stop the burnout because I couldn't breath, my interior was filled with smoke. My friend in the ragtop suffered the same fate, only he had to stop even before I did because he had his top down. I really can't describe the billow of smoke these two cars created, it was huge, thick, and probably extended a good 120 feet in the air. The funniest part actually occurred after we had stopped. We went and had some lunch and came back about a half hour later. My friend went to put the top up on his convertible, and little puffs of smoke were still coming out of the top and wheel wells, unbelievable.
