AN OVERVIEW OF THE SIX DIVISIONS

MOUNTAIN LATE MODELS: The name on this class may be misleading. These are purpose built race cars with V-8 engines putting out over 500 horsepower. With a minimum weight of 2350 lb. ( lighter than even the smallest of street cars) these are really high performance machines. Speeds will approach 120 mph on the 4/10 mile oval. While engine rules require OEM (original equipment manufacturer), cast iron engine block, and cylinder heads, other engine components are pure racing stuff. A flat top piston rule limits compression, and head porting is limited but the engine builders still know how to get these cars to make the power. The chassis on these cars are not production based. Suspensions typically feature coil over racing shocks, rack and pinion steering, quick change rear ends, and massive disc brakes on all four wheels. Bodies have nose pieces that are molded to resemble the front of a production car such as a Ford Thunderbird or a Chevrolet Lumina but the body panels themselves are either fiberglass or lightweight aluminum. A large rear spoiler makes for good downforce allowing these cars to stick to the track. Even with all the technology allowed in this division it is very competitive.
MODIFIED STREET: This V-8 engine class is a more restricted than late models, keeping down costs and limiting performance. The bodies are stock appearing although the panels can be aftermarket steel or molded fiberglass. Frames must have a street car based front clip ( the part that mounts the engine and steering gear) but the rest of the frame may be fabricated. Suspension is similar to a street car although weight jacks and some other modifications are permitted. Coil over suspensions are not allowed. Engine blocks, crankshafts, and cylinder heads must be production based items and valves must be steel and size is limited. No porting is allowed and intake manifolds are specified parts with no alterations allowed. Even with the restrictions 425 Horsepower is possible and with a 2900 lb. weight rule these cars are still quite fast.
SUPER MODIFIED MINI: Take a 4 cylinder engine producing over 250 horsepower and combine it with a 2000 lb. car and you have very capable racing machine. The chassis in this class are slightly smaller versions of the mountain late models. Bodies are similar to modified street in that they are stock appearing but they are based on smaller cars such as Ford Mustangs, and Chevrolet Berettas. Engines are restricted to 2600 cc's with a two barrel carburetor but head porting is allowed and other engine rules are quite liberal. These cars are really quick and this is a rapidly growing division.
MINI STOCK: This is the most affordable class. Being an entry level class engine rules are very restrictive keeping them very close to stock. The few modifications that are allowed are mostly for durability. Bodies are stock but are allowed to be hulled out. The suspension, steering, and frame must remain stock. A buyout rule keeps down the amount a racer is willing to spend on his powerplant. Tires are limited to DOT approved street tires. The low costs and ease of construction makes this the most popular class with over 40 entries almost every week.
PRO MINI STOCK: This is a step up from the mini stock class. Body and Chassis rules are virtually the same but these cars run on racing tires. The addition of headers and a little more camshaft make more power. The extra power coupled with the sticky racing rubber makes for a quicker car that is still very affordable.
PRO STREET STOCK: This is the V-8 version of the pro mini stock class. Bodies and frames are street car items. Weight jacks are allowed as are racing shocks. These cars utilize used tires from the late model or modified street cars in an effort to control expenses. Most engine components are limited to production items and transmissions are limited to automatics. Restrictions on valve lift and size keep the horsepower to around 300. Minimum weight is set at 3300 lb. making this a good class for drivers looking for experience before moving on to the modified streets or late model.
