Prior to the Coupon system, which I guess was well enjoyed by all, in the sense that you were paid some money for food but YOU held the prerogative to either convert it into the coupons or user "misapply" it to sponsor the famous brethren sojourns to the Middle East (Kalingalinga), Far East (Mutendere) and Chimudzi (Ng'ombe).
In our times, UNZA introduced meal cards, something similar to the "Kampompo" Bread Tickets. You never paid a ngwee for them. These cards were hardly checked and it was common practice to feed more than one tummy at any meal time inclusive of some cart-aways if you had "balendo Ku room". Some "Scandalous" bungwes were reported to possess up to as much as five such "legitimate" meal cards at any given time.
During that time, the excitement came when those who were Brave enough brought, sorry IMPORTED some Comrade Mommas from the middle East or Chimudzi (Ng'ombe) to catch a bite in the lower deck of the people's DH, you could see so many "envious" eyes transfixed on the "people's" momma munching way in bucketful measures of food at Supper or Breakfast time, with the IMPORTER brethren nodding his head in satisfaction.
