111. The Dead Don't Lie
First Broadcast: November 18, 1995
Honolulu's biggest bookie has major trouble when his girlfriend is run over while fleeing his house. Around her neck is the key to a safe deposit box containing information on all his powerful clients. While he devises various schemes to retrieve this key from Holli's department, Captain Herzog is crushed to learn of the murder of an old cop buddy of his. However, it quickly becomes clear that the murder is actually a suicide covered up by the dead cop's wife.- The cop was possibly distraught over his wife's having an affair...with Herzog. Eventually, the bookie and his men must make a concerted attack on the medical examiner's premises, and it's up to Holli to thwart them until Mack can lead the police to the scene. Herzog is absolved when he learns that his buddy was hiding the fact that he had terminal pancreatic cancer. This motivated his suicide, not Herzog's relationship with his wife.
