The Janis Dewar allows us to cool our samples and take spectra at temperatures as low as 4 K. A LakeShore Cryotronics temperature controller gives us the capability of annealing (warming) our samples while they are in the dewar; hence, we can gain more insight into the temperature dependence of radiation damage to DNA.
