In 1982, after two attempted romances for Luke after the "death" of Laura, who were Jackie and Laura Templeton, played by Demi Moore and Janine Turner, Emma Samms, a gorgeous, young, British actress came along and they gave it a shot. Holly Sutton, whom Luke lovingly called "English", was a con artist sent by her powerful, rich, criminal family to seduce Luke Spencer and get involved in a "scam" in which Holly could steal $2 million from the people of Port Charles.
But what happens while setting up the scam...Holly of course as any woman would, falls in love with Luke. The morals then get in her way, yet eventually, after a Canadian Adventure where her family kidnaps her to get her away from Luke so they can keep the money, Robert and Luke come dashing to Holly's rescue and Luke and Holly seem to be finally happy and able to start a life together. Luke, before marrying her, decides to go to the mountains to say goodbye to Laura. (Don't ask me what the mountains have to do with Laura) And what happens, OOPS, an avalanche falls on him, nearly killing him, but in reality, he was paralyzed and severly injured. Held in a hospital, Luke tried desperately to get well before returning to Port Charles and the lady of his heart, Holly Sutton.
Holly, heartbroken that the love of her life, Luke has been killed, discovers she's PREGNANT with his baby! That would be great except she's being deported back to England! Oh no! Luke's best friend in the entire world, Robert Scorpio, decides to marry Holly to keep her from being deported, give her baby a name and let Luke's child be around the people who have loved him in Port Charles. Holly, for betraying her family, has no money, no where to turn, and no future. She reluctantly agrees to marry Robert.
Holly unfortunately loses Luke's first born child in a terribly painful and heartwrenching miscarriage, which Bobbie and Ruby mourn dearly since it was the last thing they would've had of Luke. As Holly mourns in the weeks to come, she and Robert grow closer, and eventually, the day before Luke returns, admit their love and make love. WHOOOOOOPS! Luke comes to Robert's house and sees Holly! Holly nearly collapses from happiness, but Luke now knows she's married to his best friend. Holly, torn between these two men, Robert, who has been so good to her whom she truly now does love, or Luke, the first man she ever loved, whom she gave up her life for. In actuality, Holly DID choose Luke, in which they shared one last passionate kiss, however, Luke couldn't yet trust Holly. Holly had lied to him about who she was and what she had planned to do, and then married his best friend and fell in love with him. He told her he loved her but he needed time to trust her...she wouldn't stay with him if he didn't trust her. Still, the romance lives!!!
