Every culture has its form of displaying rank and honors. In the military, symbols like patches are used. In Atlantis, tattoos are applied. Either way, one can show what they enjoy or do in the community though this activity.
Tattoos of the same basic meaning usually vary slightly, since they're based on what the individual does. Someone who heals a wound would have a similar tattoo to someone who could comfort a friend who felt hurt and be similar to someone who sacrificed themselves to improve or save their culture. The base would be the same, but variations in thickness, angle, and oftentimes placement would allow for different meanings of the same basic idea.
A page for your tattoos will be provided. If you have a site, you may display your tattoos, but you must link back to the tattoo/rank page. Why? It doesn't matter how many tattoos you have up on your home page if there's no link to the official page that would support your claim. Proof makes the world go 'round, and if you can prove yourself, more power to you!
Some tattoos may be found around the LIKE_A_STAR8800 sites. Send an email to LIKE_A_STAR8800@yahoo.com.with the link of the found tattoo, and you'll recieve a new type of rank-like symbol on the tattoo page.
A tattoo may be switched for a patch without trading with someone just as long as its meaning is the same.
Types: Common (C) Awarded (A) Found (F) Limited Edition Found (LE F#) and Special Event (SE). Commons are basically limited to the greenhorn tattoo/sailor patch. (That symbol comes automatically with application, as well). Founds include the flamemaster tattoo/demolitionist patch. Found Limited Edition would be like Kida's royal tattoos and their equivalent patch. Both F and FLE symbols might be found in either the Atlantean or Explorer forms. Either way, they may still be switched for the other, just as long as its meaning is the same. Awarded are rare marks generally given due to activity in the community, like Destination Atlantis members (since they can be tracked) and Atlantis fan site creators. Special Event symbols are given out at special events, though the same ones tend to be given out. For instance, Kida's standard tattoo/Helga's patch are availible from Atlanticon.
Awarded symbols also require emailed requests, but additionally, you must explain why the symbol fits you, and show some sort of proof (fan fic, CM tag, post on Destination Atlantis, ect.)
Where does the "swapping" come in, and how? Although in reality one couldn't just trade a tattoo or a rank insignia, this is like Disney's pin trading or online card trading. But how do you do it? That's where an email address comes in. Though you don't have to submit an email to collect, you do to trade. Then people can contact you and vice-versa to trade symbols. Just email the person you want to trade with, and when the two of you decide on something, BOTH of you need to email me at LIKE_A_STAR8800@yahoo.com and tell me what the trade is. Then I'll switch it on the page.
Since every explorer symbol has a corresponding Atlantean tattoo and vice versa, they can be switched to the opposite version at any time. Just send an email or use the form below.

- Communications, via radio for one, via voice and now writing for the other.
- Both involve power, one through electricity mantanience, the other authority to do what is seen fit for the power-source of Atlantis.

- Of the highest rank, these marks are greatly respected.
- These are the symbols of a dedicated explorer whose wit can get others through tough scrapes.
- This symbol is for one who digs, whether it be literal, as in the first, or digging as in searching through the past. Both make great discoveries.
- Marks of healers. Sweet healed both emotion and body. Kida healed her culture.
- Both these marks are given for through determination, bravery, and a sharpness of the mind.
- Bookkeeper's Tattoo. Sorry, no trading. No "Found symbols" for this person, since she knows where they all are, and must be minimal. ;") Hi there.
