Preston B. Whitmore

Birthplace: Seattle, Washington

I got some information from the 1913 City directory before the trip:

Mr. Preston Whitmore is the founder and sole owner of Preston Whitmore Industries, Ltd., an empire that encompasses logging operations in the states of Washington and Oregon; the Southern Rail Freight line; Whitmore Mining and Petroleum in Texas, Alaska Territories, and South Africa; Whitmore Stockyards in Huston, Texas; and P.W.I. Shipbuilding in Norfolk, Virginia. An avid collector of rare antiquities, Mr. Whitmore has spent sizable fortunes on expeditions to retrieve precious relics, with the help of his longtime friend and advisor Prof. Thaddeus Thatch.

Whitmore was a close friend of Grandpa. He went along on many of his expeditions. He shared Grandpa's ambition to find treasures and places of myth. The collection in his mansion is proof of that. A little eccentric and rather solitary, I first met him doing yoga. I'm still astonishes he funded the whole expedition. I know it was on a bet with Grandpa, but the fact that he kept his word, in this day and age, says a lot for him. If it weren't for him, Atlantis would still be decaying. I learned later the only thing that held him back from coming along was health problems.

When the team returned, he was saddened that so many people had gone to side with Rourke for profit. It's due to him that Atlantis is still a secret. Whitmore realized knowledge of the city to the outside world would put it in danger, so he formulated and rehearsed a cover story for it.

I doubt Whitmore could ever know just how much he did for me and everyone down here.
