My father had ruled since before the Mebelmok. By any standards he was old, having reached the age of 20,000 shortly before his murder. The last time I would ever speak with him he told me that when I took the throne, I would understand why our way of life had been preserved. I did not see his wisdom in those words, then. I only saw a crumbling city. During the beginning of his reign, he began war with the places called Athens and Egypt. In his arrogance he used the Heart of Atlantis as a weapon of war, creating the vehicles we use for peaceful purposes today. However, he underestimated the Mother Crystal's power, causing the Mebelmok. It was then I lost my mother when she was bonded too long with the Crystal as we sank into the earth. To keep the incident and the corruption that led to it from happening again, as well as to keep me safe, he hid the crystal below our city, promising never to use it again. Believing even the knowledge of it could destroy us, he forbade reading and writing. The people spoke of it no longer, and we lost our own past. Father's will was strong, for he did not reveal to anyone, no matter the danger to himself, the location of the Heart of Atlantis. Only at his death did he share the secrets of the past.
