The well known Cuban Missile Crisis of late 1962 had no more than ran it's course than I received a set of orders to VU-10 home ported in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I had no idea what it would be like to be stationed in a Foreign Country, much less a base on Communist soil where a World War had nearly started in the preceeding months. After several months of training, I was finally on my way to Gitmo in August 1963. I flew out of Norfolk, VA arriving in Cuba several hours later. In August there wasn't much difference.
