In the premiere episode, Hope (Faith Ford), a down-to-earth, happily married mom of three, quickly finds her tidy world upended by the recent arrival of her celebrity sister, Faith (Kelly Ripa). She already had her hands full at home dealing with a busy household that includes two daughters — a precocious pre-teen Hayley (Macey Cruthird) and a rebellious teen Sydney (Nicole Paggi) and Justin (Jansen Panettiere), her quirky youngest. But Hope begins to lose some of the control she holds so dear, since Faith's outrageous antics have a way of engulfing the people around her. And when Sydney starts cutting class to shop at the mall with Aunt Faith, Hope knows that her showboating sister better be ready for a showdown. Can Faith adjust to life far away from the spotlight without turning Hope's world upside down? Can Hope share a roof with her larger-than-life sister and still hold on to normalcy and order? When Faith catches wind that a high-profile director Nick Spinelli (Fisher Stevens) is planning on shooting a film in Cleveland, she quickly hatches a foolproof plan that she expects will give her that second chance at stardom. Hope and Faith plan a chance meeting with the director at a local diner, but their strategy is turned upside down when they realize they have no money to pay for their dinner. Their ill-tempered waitress, Marge (Kathie Lee Gifford), doesn't buy their excuses, and the restaurant owner makes Hope and Faith wait tables to earn their meals. But when the director finally shows, Marge decides that an acting career might be better suited to her than to Faith.

When Justin accidentally destroys Charley's beloved baseball autographed by Roger Clemens, Faith sets out to replace it with Hope's help. Hearing that Clemens will be in Columbus for a charity game, the two women end up masquerading as reporters in the team locker room to buttonhole Clemens. But when a tenacious security guard gives chase, the women must hide out in the players' whirlpool tubs. Meanwhile, Hayley leads the family in a sit-down protest when Charley must cut down the tree that holds their treehouse.
