Introduction

Children are our most precious hope for the future, yet they are the least protected of all people.  Most of us are aware of the Geneva Convention for safety and well-being of prisoners of war, but have no knowledge of the same rights for children.  (By the way, in 1929, the Geneva Convention was extended to include the rights of children).

On December 10th, 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted and proclaimed the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Article 5 states:

" No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment."

On November 20, 1959, the U.N. further established the
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Article 19, part one states:

"States Parties shall take all appropriate legislative, administrative, social and educational measures to protect the child from all forms of physical or mental violence, injury or abuse, neglect or negligent treatment, maltreatment or exploitation, including sexual abuse, while in the care of parent(s), legal guardian(s)d or any other person who has the care of the child."
The point is, children DO have rights, but children are in pain even as you read this.  Our responsibilty as concerned fellow humans is to preserve their rights.  You are here because you are one of those concerned.

The purpose of this web site is to raise the level of awareness of the universal problem of child abuse.  To get the most out of this site, I encourage you to visit all the links in this site, then to act. Let your concern extend to actually helping the children, because they can't or don't know how to help themselves.
