This Claymore originally belong to Ian MacLeod, leader of the Clan
MacLeod, surrogate father to Immortal Duncan MacLeod. Duncan "lost"
his rite to use it when his father found out that he was Immortal
and disowned him. Years later Ian MacLeod was killed by a viking
Immortal, and Duncan took the Claymore as his own to avenge his
fathers death. 400 years later, it hangs in a tavern in Glenfinnin
owned by Rachel MacLeod in rememberance of all the MacLeods that have
come before her. It is retrieved by Duncan only when his scottish soul
is troubled.
This sword is the first one I've been asked about in quite awhile
(except for the Kurgans, which I get asked for about once a week).
This sword was first featured (to my knowledge) in the 4th season
episode "Homeland" and was seen again in the two part episode dealing
with Duncan MacLeods "dark quickening" (ok, I didn't do my homework
on the episode titles; E-Mail me them, and I will correct it). As I understand it this is not the Claymore that was originally used in the
1st episode "Family". I'm not sure if it was used by any other immortal (hey, I don't have the time to do research that I used to, ok?)
- Claymore
- So far I have found three vendors who sell variations of this Claymore.
One report claims that the sword is a reproduction of a 16th century museum piece. Another claims it is the reproduction of the sword used by Jacob I (1394-1437) King of Scotland a.k.a. "the Lion of Scotland".
There are two variations in the handle type - ebony and wood. The wood handle can be either black lacquered or wood grain. The hilt comes in either gold, bronze or silver & gold. You can get the sword (the whole sword) with decorative etchings on it. No vendor mentions a scabbard of any type.
Statistics:
-
- Stainless steel blade.
- Comes live (sharpened).
- Blade length: 39"

Images:
- (You will need to use the back button on your browser to return.)
- View of the sword as seen on Highlander.
- Another view of the sword as seen on Highlander.
- One the more subtle variations. (the leather (?) extends up the blade, and there should be no gold ring around the middle of the handle)
- The most radical variation. The blade is etched, the pommel is round instead of teardropped, and the hilt is etched.
- Different view of above. Large view.
- Same as above, but smaller.
