Frequently Asked Questions
Okaaaaaay! After emailing all over GODs creation to classmates that i've been in contact with, I've come to the conclusion that this FAQ web page has been long overdue.  Besides, there's so much info that my fingers are going numb from typing the same stuff over and over again in emails. Imagine, if you will, how it would be like typing this same stuff many times over each day to different classmates. I often need to tailor the response to whom I'm talking to so it's not as simple as cutting/pasting from a text file. Soooooo... please don't be slighted if I refer you to this website.

Question 2:
"...are you working and what do you do...?"
I work as a programmer analyst in the MEDI-CAL Applications Systems Support Unit.

Question 3:
"...how long have you been married...?"
We’ve been married for about 15 yrs.

Question 4:
"...what's your wife like...?"
She's a wonderful wife/mother and fun to be with.  She's 7 years younger than I.  We're on opposite ends of the personality spectrum, but compensate for each others weaknesses and gaps.  You can read about her at our family web site.

Question 5:
"...how many children do you have...?"
We have 2 wonderful children.  Aside from GOD and my wife, they're the love of my life.  You can read about them at our family web site or their grandmother's website.

Question 6:
"..where are you living now...?"
We live in Sacramento, CA

Question 7:
"...how long did it take for you to create the web page...?"
It took about 2 weeks of hard coding (when web page creation software was non-existent 2 years back) for the original 2 web pages.  For the remaining web pages, it took about a month.  There are currently over 75 web pages (not including the +300 support files) to this site.  If I told you that it was 20, i was in error and hadn't counted the pages.

Question 8:
"...what do you use for creating the web pages...?"
Currently, I use a combination of Netscape COMPOSER, Geocities PAGEBUILDER, and hard coding.

Question 9:
"...i can't find you in any of the yearbooks...?"
I stand corrected about not being in any of the yearbooks.  William Dea has located a freshman pic of me in the 1964 yearbook.  Obviously, i'm a little clueless about what i remember.  Norman Jung sent me the page from that '64 yearbook and it's posted in the class listings.  Also, I'm listed in the "65 yearbook index as "Waylnn Soou" (yrbk typo) in reg 459.

Question 10:
"...why is the class listing only for F'65 thru 1966...?"
I only have the 1 white 1966 yearbook that I bought when I was a senior to work with.  I came from a poor and low income family.  Yearbooks were a luxury for me back then.  The money that paid for that yearbook came from my newpaper route earnings.  I haven't any other way of verifying names except from fellow classmates.  However, thanks to Norman Jung, I now have access to the '64 and '65 yearbook indexes which i will eventually get around to posting.  People have wondered about the possibility of expanding the site to include the other classes.  My answer is "you've got to be kidding".  i'm only 1 person.  It's difficult enough managing this site as it is already.

Question 11:
"...who did you know at Galileo...?"
This could easily turn into a very thick book.  Warren Wong, Leland Yee, the ROTC crowd, Warren Lew, Wilson Chang, Doris Fong, Bennett Liang, Frenee Gunn, William Jeong, Kingston Lee, Mary Lee, May Lee, Russell Lee, Allen Leong, Alan Lim, and a whole lot of others.  Did I pass the test?

Question 12:
"...How do you view your military experience...?"
At the time, I was a shy, insecure, very naive kid.  After a year and a half(?) of CCSF, i was bored, without focus, wasn't doing well in school, and 1A from changing majors 3 times.  About 9/68(??), I dropped out of CCSF, walked into the Air Force recruiting office signed the enlistment papers, they told me that i would start in 6 months, walked out after signing the enlistment papers, thought for a minute of how boring it was going to be for 6 months before bootcamp, waliked into the NAVY recruiting office, signed up there, told them about my AIR FORCE enlistment of 5 minutes ago, they walked me back over to the AIR FORCE office.  They talked to the recruiter, the AIR FORCE tore up my papers, walked back to the NAVY's office, completed the papers, and i was in as of the next day.  Confusing???  Believe me, it was a very confusing time for me.  In any case, I spent the 1st 2 years of my Naval journey on a staff command of a Rear Admirals flagship due to my high security clearance. passed the test to be a draftsman and became a 3rd class petty officer.  Transferred out of staff command and into ship's company, spent a few months there, got orders for (drum roll pls) of all places (because they needed a draftsman there)...DANANG, VIETNAM.  Anyway....ended up there for a year.  Very secure area for the most part, had a few scary moments when i had to run out with my M16 because the siren went off. Missed a firefight between a south vietnamese soldier and a 24th Corp Army guy that ended up with a body on a table by a few hous while doing a mail run, Witnessed the US airbase fuel depot go up in a puff of smoke and burn for 3 days.  Came that close to possibly stepping into an area that may have been land mined.  Personally knew a first class petty officer that was supposed to go home the next day who got drunk, challenged a guard with a knife who shot him, and ended up going home in a box.  Last but not least, I made the mistake of trying to wake a first class petty officer from a nightmare, found myself staring down the barrels of a double barreled shotgun that he slept with, and almost got my head blown off.  He chewed me out and told me to never try to awaken someone yelling during a nightmare who's been in any forward positions or in firefights. 1970 (??) was the start of troop reductions and due to my security clearance level, I was charged with the weekly maintenance of the graphs of in-county numbers and the site maps of forward base relocations. I knew full well what was coming down the pike that year.  For myself, personally, I think GOD had other plans for me.  My prayer at nights would be for him to get me out of VIETNAM before Christmas. 3 days before Christmas, they told me to pack my stuff and move out for home. For me, that was a shocker at how wonderful and how quickly that GOD can move.
I'm no longer the shy and insecure person that I was when I left high school and there's very little that I'm afraid of nowadays.  There's a down side...I'm not as open, as trusting, or as caring as the boy that left high school.  One tends to unintentionally harden one's shell over time to keep from caring too much.  Still a ways to go. However, GOD has made things a lot easier for me to be more open.
Loved the pounding of the waves against the ship and smell of salt spray from the ocean.  Absolutely breathtaking to watch the sunset amongst the miles of water.  Loved traveling around all those cities/countries with my camera in hand.  Interacted with about +1000 guys and learned a lot about character, personalities, races, backgrounds, affiliations, and people in general.

As you can readily see, I usually end up spending a lot of time answering these same questions over and over again with every new classmate contact.  I'd much rather focus on your lives.
