GOSPEL (Gr. euangelion, good news). The English word gospel is derived from the Anglo-Saxon godspell, which meant "good tidings" and, later, the "story concerning God."
As now used, the word describes the message of Christianity and the books in which the record of Christ's life and teaching is found.
This message is the Good News that God has provided a way of redemption through his Son Jesus Christ.
Through the gospel, the Holy Spirit works for the salvation of human beings (Rom 1:15-16).
In the NT the word never means a book (one of the four Gospels), but the good tidings that Christ and the apostles announced.
