My Collectible of the Year Zippos....

(and other collectibles)

In 1992, Zippo introduced the 60th Anniversary Commemorative Lighter in a collectible tin. Customer and collector response was so great that the tradition has continued with a new lighter each year. Available for only a limited time, the early sets have already become highly-prized editions for collectors......
Here are the ones I have.......

Quote from Zippo Lighter Collector's Guide..."Zippo introduced this limited edition midnight chrome lighter with pewter 60th Anniversary emblem. Each lighter was displayed on plush velour platform in a decorated tin." That is what is shown above. There was also a six-lighter set released that year dedicated to special anniversary years throughout Zippo's history. I am still in need of this set, so if you have one to sell, make me an offer I'll love! DOM-Sept`92

Now shown above is a similar 60th Anniversary Zippo, but strikingly different. This one has the same emblem attached, and it came in the same decorated tin. THIS ONE, however, looks to be a high polished chrome finish (hard to see in the scan) and also in the tin was a "sash" that reads, "Exclusive White Nickel Finish with Genuine Pewter Emblem." I know most were finished in the midnight chrome, making this one somewhat of a rarity. Let me know if you happen to have one like it. DOM-July`92

The 1994 Collectible saluted the 50th anniversary of D-Day. It's black crackle surface replicated the famous World War II finish, and the antique brass emblem was patterned after the sleeve patch worn by Allied troops. Gen. Eisenhower's June 6, 1944 message to the troops is reprinted inside the lid of the round collectible tin. A four lighter companion set was also issued that year, which I am still in need of. If you have an extra to sell, make me an offer I can't refuse! DOM-1994

Here is "Mysteries of the Forest" the 1995 Collectible of the Year. This set marked several firsts for Zippo. First, the images on the lighters in the set combined to present a larger picture.(can you see the it?) It was the first Limited Edition to use Zippo's new Technigraphic process. And for the first time, the single lighter, "Jaguar and Cub at Turtle Falls" shared a graphic connection with the four lighter set. DOM-Mar`95

Here is the 1996 Collectible of the Year, "Zippo Salutes Pinup Girls" Zippo's Pinup of the Year was Joan, the 1996 Collectible. The Four Seasons four lighter companion set introduced Holly, April, Sommer, and Ida Redd. DOM-June-July`96

The 1997 Collectible of the Year Zippo commemorates Zippos 65th Anniversary. This was produced before Zippo discovered that production did not start until 1933. High Polish Chrome Zippo with antique pewter emblem attached. DOM-`97

The 1998 Collectible salutes the original 1947 Zippo Car made in 1948. A replica is being built right now, and will reside in the Zippo/Case Visitor's Center. DOM-Jan`98

Here is the prize of my collection as far as I am concerned. The Tucker 50th anniversary replica. There were only 51 of these made, numbered 1001 to 1051. I recieved number 1012. In order to recieve one of these you had to fill out the special order form. (Back of form) You were only allowed to purchase one. I feel very lucky to have recieved one. It also came in a special tin, and came with a "Torch Bearer Certificate" also pictured above. DOM-Apr`98

Here is the official lighter of the 1998 Zippo/Case International Swap Meet held in Bradford, PA. Only 850 of the lighters were produced, although they were not individually numbered. DOM-Apr`98
Now, the only Collectible of the Year Zippo I am missing is the 1993 Varga Girl, Windy. It recalls Zippo's first national advertisement in 1937. If you have one to sell, make me a great offer!
