Jaguars (continued)

Diet

Unlike most cats, the jaguar loves water and will sometimes hunt the crocodiles and snakes that live in the jungle swamps. It also eats monkeys, deer, sloths, tapirs, turtles, eggs, frogs, fish, and anything else it can catch.

At around the year 1900, Jaguars ranged from southern California and Arizona to as far south as Rio Negro in Argentina. They choose their habitat by what kind of prey is available rather than by climate. Jaguars have now been killed throughout the United States, most of Mexico and Central America, and at the other end of its range from Uraguay and all but the far north of Argentina.
