PENNSYLVANIA A-Z PROJECT
(Please review this with a parent.)
Name: _____________ Date: _________
Beginning in October, you will complete an exciting research project entitled Pennsylvania A-Z. The project will require incorporating research about PA into an interesting and rather massive report!
You are to select a topic relating to Pennsylvania representing each letter of the alphabet. You should draw from a variety of topics, including counties, towns, cities, rivers, lakes, landforms, products, industries, tourist attractions, famous Pennsylvanians, etc... You would certainly want to include anything that is unique to our state.
You should read about each topic that you choose and then write about it in your own words. You should write at least one well-structured paragraph for each letter and include an appropriate illustration. Your illustrations should be a combination of your own artwork, internet pictures, pictures cut from magazines, etc... Be creative ! Below each topics paragraph, you will list the source/s in which you found your information (title of books, title of magazines, Web addresses, etc...) in the form of a bibliography. Try to vary your resources (books, web sites, magazines, etc.).
See the attached form to see exactly how you will be assessed.
This project should be enjoyable and fun, not a source of stress. The letter pages do not have to be overly elaborate. You can do a good job with the requirements for this project by working at a steady pace. It is a good idea to try and complete one letter or more per week. Work on this project will be completed primarily in school. You will be utilizing our Flexible Library schedule for research opportunities. However, some work may have to be done at home. Mrs. StrobacK will be meeting with you to share and review appropriate library resources. She will also be instructing and modeling how to write an appropriate bibliography.
Your first step in completing this project will be brainstorming 26 (A-Z) ideas, one for each letter of the alphabet. Ask family and friends for their ideas too. Chances are that you and a classmate may have some of the same ideas, so you may want to ask friends that are not in your class.
If at ANY time during the process of completing this project, you or your parents have any questions or concerns, please contact me as soon as possible. I am more than happy to help in any way I can in order to make this a rich, meaningful learning experience.
