Different Paths By: Julia and Lauren Part Five By: Julia Comments, congratulations, or death threats to FiddlerITW@AOL.com AND frostyu@geocities.com. "B'Elanna, is that you?" Scott called from their bedroom. He set his brush down on his tray and got up off the bed. "B'Elanna?" "Yeah?" She came into the bedroom. "Oh Scott, that's beautiful!" She kneeled down and lightly ran her fingers over the dry paint. It was a picture of the moon just rising, there was the moon, white with a pale yellowish outline. He took great detail in the sky and the surrounding stars. At the bottom of the picture, you could just see the tip of Earth. Scott sat down on the bed again and B'Elanna sat down next to him. "Could I draw you?" Scott asked quietly, adding a bluish green color to the sky on his painting. B'Elanna looked shock. "M... Me?" "Yeah. Please?" "Well... what do I do?" "Let me get a new canvas." Scott carefully picked up the painting of the moon and set it against the wall, nearly tripping over a pair of B'Elanna's shoes. She smiled. "Oops, sorry." "I can now officially say you've moved in. Your stuff is everywhere." Scott and B'Elanna had unofficially moved in together. They had chosen B'Elanna's quarters, they were bigger but Scott wasn't that used to the messy interior. It had been almost three months since Tom had come to B'Elanna's quarters the night of the dance. They hadn't spoken since then, unless it was work related. B'Elanna spent her time with Harry or Scott, ignoring Tom completely. She'd seen the looks he still gave her, but she pushed the dazzling azure eyes from her mind. "I've always been messy, it annoyed my mom, so if anything did annoy her, I'd do it." Scott smiled fondly. "That's okay." He unfolded his drawing platform and set the piece of canvas carefully on it. "Now take off your clothes." Scott said, a twinkle in his eyes. B'Elanna looked at him in shock. "I'm just joking!" He threw up his hands in mock surrender. She gave him a Klingon glare and settled back on the pillows of the bed. "Okay, now take one pillow and hold onto it, look out the window at the stars, like your pondering something." B'Elanna 'pondered' for over an hour before quietly drifted off to sleep. Scott looked up and reached over to poke her in the leg. "B'Elanna?" "Hmmm...?" She opened her eyes and curled up into a ball. "I'm just taking a nap." Scott smiled at the sleeping form and set his painting aside. He scooted her down farther before he carefully climbed next to her. He wrapped one arm around her and went to sleep as well. *** "Bell, wake up!" Scott shook her gently. "B'Elanna?" "Go away, I'm sleeping." The half-Klingon said grumpily. Before he could stop her she was up and into the bathroom, bending over the toilet. Scott hurried after her and gently set her back against the wall. "Are you okay? What's wrong?" B'Elanna smiled. "Nothing, probably just an after effect of Neelix's cooking." "Are you sure?" "Yes!" She said and stood up. "Come on, we have duty." Engineering was horrible that day. B'Elanna was not in a good mood, the only person she would talk to was Scott. He could feel the glaring eyes of the rest of the Engineering team. Her shift ended and he had to practically drag her to the Mess Hall. She fell asleep during lunch, still holding onto her fork. He sighed and carried her back to their quarters, depositing her on the bed before turning to go over some reports. "Scott?" A weak voice asked a couple hours later. He set down the PADD. "What is it, B'Elanna? Do you want anything?" "Tarkalian tea..." She said, almost drifting off to sleep again. He handed her a fresh cup from the replicator. She took one whiff of it and was running towards the bathroom, the tea spilling all over the bed. She woke up after that, as he worked on drawing her again. "Okay, that should be all for today." He said, sticking his brush in water. She stood up, seemed to stare at the wall for a minute, and fainted. *** "Mr. Paris!" The Doctor called, cutting off Tom's concentration from the medical texts he had been reading. He stood up and walked into the main part of Sickbay. Scott Meherrit stood there over B'Elanna. His face was etched with worry and he grasped one of B'Elanna's hands tightly. Tom swung around and tried to pull the Doctor back into his office. His hand went right through. "In here." Tom said quietly. The Doctor stepped into his office. "What is the meaning of this, Mr. Paris?" "I can't treat them." He said stubbornly. "Why not?" "I don't really want to go into that." Tom told him. The Doctor glared at him. "You are a medical officer, you will treat anyone that I tell you to treat, and I tell you to treat them." He slammed a medical tricorder into his hands. "Treat!" Tom sighed slowly and entered Sickbay again. "What happened?" He said evenly, flipping open the tricorder and taking out the small scanner. "We were in our quarters," Scott began. Tom's blue eyes glared at Scott when he said 'our.' "And I was putting my paints away when she stood up from the bed, and fainted. I brought her here after that." "Mmm-hmm..." Tom said slowly, not believing anything Scott said. He injected a hypo into B'Elanna's neck and her eyes fluttered open. She slowly sat up, not noticing Tom. "Scott... what am I doing here?" "You fainted, you've been acting weird all day, I wanted to make sure everything was okay." B'Elanna smiled. "I feel fine..." "Well your not." Tom said, hitting a few buttons on the tricorder, and running the scanner over her stomach. B'Elanna flinched and tried to move away. The scanner let off a beep of alarm. Tom stared at the readings in shock. The tricorder dropped to the floor, the casing cracking. Tom looked up at them. He stared in shock at B'Elanna and then glared hardly at Scott. With that, he walked out of Sickbay. Scott carefully picked up the tricorder and looked at the readings. It showed two heart-beats. B'Elanna was pregnant.
