Louie the St Bernard

Would you believe that the very first encounter I had with an animal was before I was born?? Well its true, and maybe that is why I have had so many animals come into my life.

Louie was a big, playful St Bernard dog my parents owned before I was born. He was also a very jealous guy and always wanted attention. A St Bernard dog is the one you see in movies, who rescue people in the snow, and usually are pictured with a water keg tied around their neck.

When I was still inside my Mom, Louie would try to crawl up into her lap. My parents were afraid that he would crush me and had to find a new home for him. They put an ad in the paper, and one day a man called and asked if he could meet Louie. My folks said yes and set a time for him to come over.

It turned out that the man was a film maker, and he was looking for a St Bernard for a new movie he was working on. Louie and my folks liked the man, so Louie got a new home, and became a movie star!!

I have only seen a picture of him and my Mom, and a Canadian Mounties Movie that he was in. Its fun to know that the first animal I ever encounterd became famous.

Missy

When I was 11 mths old my parents brought home a 3 mth old Cocker Spaniel we named Missy. She was my first pet and lived with us for 13 yrs. Missy was my buddy, she went where ever I went. I had an older brother, but Missy was my dog. We lived in Ohio until I was 8 yrs old, and I remember one time when I was around 4 yrs old we had a tornado scare. My parents sent my brother, Missy and I to the basement for safety and said they would be down soon. About an hour later, my brother went up- stairs to see what had happened. He told me to stay put with Missy until he came back. An hour later Missy ran up the stairs and left me in the basement all alone. I was really scared, I thought every body was gone. Another hour passed before I got brave enough to go upstairs. My famiily was sitting down for lunch...they had completely forgotten about me!! My Dad said he thought I was outside playing. I was crying and Missy came running over to me and gave me big kisses until I stopped.

Missy slept with me every night. She was also my protector, if other dogs or cats came around she would chase them away, and she never let strangers approach me. I loved her so much and miss her. I can't remember too much about her cause I was so young, but I will never forget her and her love.
