Crafts TYPICAL DAILY ROUTINE (Preschool Program: Ages 2 1/2 - 5)

Young children and toddlers enjoy a structured routine that allows for flexibility. A schedule helps the day to flow more smoothly, allows the children to anticipate upcoming events, and aids in achieving a variety of goals. We will adhere to our written schedule to the best of our ability, keeping in mind that anything can happen when children are involved. There will be times when we have to make adjustments to the schedule. We appreciate families considering our schedule when picking up or dropping off their children. It is better if arrivals and departures do not occur during naptime/quiet-time, but when they do, please take note of the fact that children may be sleeping. Come and go as quietly and quickly as possible. Children who arrive during quiet time will be expected to rest or play quietly until the rest period is over.

TODDLER PROGRAM (Ages 18 months - 2 1/2 years)

The toddler routine may not necessarily follow the same schedule as the preschoolers. They may not be capable of sitting still for circle time, etc. Of course, children develop differently, and whenever they wish to join in with the older children they will be allowed, unless it is not a safe activity for them. Since toddlers cannot communicate well with parents, I will complete a report to be sent home daily. It will include how well they ate, time of naps, diaper changes, any medication given and various comments about the child's day.

INFANT ROUTINE (Ages 6 weeks - 17 months)

Infants will not necessarily follow the same schedule as the toddlers and preschoolers. Infants are always fed on demand. This is one reason our daily schedule is not "set in stone". While the older children engage in free play, I try to take some time to play with the infants. Feeding and diaper changing times are good times for interaction with infants. Of course, children deveop differently, and whenever these "wee ones" wish to join in with the older children (unless it is not a safe activity for them), they will be allowed.

I will complete a report for each infant every day. It will include such things as time of feedings, what was eaten, amount eaten, diaper changes, naptimes and various comments out the child's day.

NAPTIME/REST TIME

Infants nap at varying times and their personal schedules always take precedence. By the time a child reaches one year of age, I try to fit them into the same rest schedule as the older children. We usually rest in the afternoons between 12:30 and 2:30. Children are not required to fall asleep, although most do. Children who do not sleep or who rise early must remain quiet until the othrs are awake. Quiet activities are provided for those children. It is not possible to exclude someone from rest-time. Please understand your child is very active and is awaken early in the morning. Rest-time gives everyone a much-needed break from the day. Without rest-time some children are argumentative in the afternoon, short-tempered with others and not real happy when they go home.

CHILDREN'S SUPPLIES

Parents are required to label and supply those items necessary for the proper care of your child.

The items you will need to supply are:

    1. One or two extra changes of clothing
    2. Diapers (I will be using disposable diapers only) and wipes in full packs. I will notify you when I will be needing more.
    3. Bottles and formula
    4. Baby foods
    5. Pillow & blanket for naps
    * Breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon snacks will be provided for those eating regular table foods.
    * All of your child's personal items should be labeled with a permanent marker.
    * No sleeping bags, please. I have limited space for storage and they do not hold up well with frequent washings.

    MEALS & SNACKS

NUTRITION: Since food and nutrition are important components of a child's development, Punkin Patch Family Child Care emphasizes foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade soups, whole grain breads, etc. Daily menu will follow the guidelines recommended by the USDA childcare food program.
MEAL TIMES: Well-balanced breakfasts, lunches, morning and afternoon snacks will be provided. All children will be offered food. Your child will not be forced to eat but will be encouraged to at least try one or two bites of everything. If your child chooses not to eat then no food will be offered until next mealtime. If your child will be arriving after mealtime, you will need to see that he/she has eaten prior to arrival.
MENUS: Weekly menus are posted on the bulletin board or placed in your child's cubby/bag upon request.
OUTSIDE FOODS: Children are not to bring food, drinks, etc. from home unless there is enough for all the children and okayed by me.
