*** Glass jar candle Holder ***

Glass jar candle Holder

For this, you need a large glass jar,
wire for a handle,
and glass 'outlining' and colouring paint.

A nightlight candle in the jar
projects the painted colours
in a flickering picture
against a wall.

Detailed instructions below.

Materials

Glass paints, various colours
Outliner paint (liquid lead)
Clean jar
Night light candles & taper for lighting them
String or wire
Paper for design template

Equipment

Pliers for bending the wire
Pencil
Paintbrush

Method

  1. Cut the paper so that it is the height up to the shoulder of the jar, and can be bent into a circle and fit inside the jar.
  2. Draw your design on to the paper. Easter and Mother's Day ideas are given here.
  3. Roll the paper, design outwards, and slip it inside the jar.
  4. Trace the chosen design onto the outside of the jar using the outliner paint. Let it dry.
  5. Colour in the design using glass paints.
  6. Wrap wire or string around the neck of the jar and fasten by twisting the wire, or knotting the string firmly, (but not too tightly).
  7. Drop in the night light candle and light it carefully using a taper.
  8. NB When lit the lantern jar gets hot - use the handle.
