I remembered those words, as if they
had only been spoken yesterday.  So
I allowed him to walk me to my car.
He asked me if he could call me in
the morning, and figuring he was so
drunk he'd never remember, and I wasn't
planning on giving him my phone number, I
said yes. I thought that would be the easiest
way to avoid a possible problem.

The next day, the phone rings and he's on
the other end.  Talk about shock.  I asked him
how he got the number, and wouldn't you
know it.  Our mutual friend had taken it
upon herself to give it to him.  Now I was
really stuck.  I have always been a polite
person by nature, and there was no way
I could excuse hanging up the phone on
him.  I also couldn't bring myself to tell him
exactly what I thought of him.  So when he
announced that he was coming over, I had
no choice other than to beg my mother to
"ground" me so that I wouldn't have to deal
with it.  I of course was fought on that issue
as well.  Everyone's hearts were in the right
place, but at the same time, this was definitely
a case where they should have stayed out of it.

He showed up at my house with a dozen long
stem red roses and a stuffed animal.  He was
dressed a little nicer, although still unshaven.
He was also sober.  I thought to myself
"Could this really be the same guy I met
last night?" Being the inquisitive type
that I am, this of course sparked my
curiosity, if not my interest as well.
So we went out for a ride.  We weren't
planning on going anywhere in
particular.  It was just  one of those
"getting to know you better"
type situations.  We had a nice day
together and had even stopped by our
mutual friends house to thank her for
introducing us.  I actually thought for once
that first impressions could be wrong.
