As the founder and sole member of "Fair Play for Make Believe," Rogers published numerous anti-Friday tracts over the next several months, including the bluntly titled "Puppet Regicide: The Case Against Friday." In this photo, snapped the month before the shooting, Rogers brandishes a cheap Manlicher-Carcano rifle borrowed from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting's gun vault. The fact that the gun was originally purchased by Julia Child provides the heretofore mysterious reason why the beloved television chef was detained for questioning after the assassination.
