(7) KENTUCKY 70, GEORGE WASHINGTON 55

LAHAINA, Hawaii -- Wayne Turner scored 16 points to lead seventh-ranked Kentucky to a 70-55 victory over George Washington in the first round of the Maui Invitational, setting up a rematch of last season's NCAA Championship. Kentucky (2-0) gets a chance to avenge its overtime loss to Arizona in Tuesday's semifinals. The top-ranked Wildcats, who defeated Kentucky in overtime in April to win the title, routed Boston College, 99-69, in an earlier first-round game.

The Wildcats raced to a 16-point halftime lead and held off the Colonials behind Turner, who scored 11 second-half points.

Shawnta Rogers scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half for George Washington (3-1), which will play Boston College in the consolation round on Tuesday.

Kentucky led by four points early in the second quarter before scoring 15 straight points. Two free throws by Scott Padgett followed by two from Heshimu Evans increased Kentucky's lead to eight before Nazr Mohammed's tip-in made it 22-12 with 6:56 left in the second quarter.

Turner made a layup, Evans a 15-foot jumper and Jamaal Magloire a free throw for a 27-12 advantage with 3:10 remaining in the half. A follow by Magloire and a dunk by Michael Bradley capped the burst and gave the Wildcats a 31-12 bulge with 2:20 to go.

Kentucky held George Washington to seven points in the period and built a 33-17 halftime lead. The Colonials hit just 19 percent of their shots in the quarter.

The Wildcats extended the lead to 52-32 entering the fourth quarter and increased it to 55-34 on Turner's 3-pointer with 8:15 remaining. But Alexander Koul converted a three-point play and Roey Eyal hit a baseline jumper. After a layup by Jeff Sheppard, Rogers buried a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 57-42 with 6:29 to go.

Turner answered with a 3-pointer to build the lead back to 18, but the Colonials closed within 11 at 64-53 on a layup by Antxon Iturbe with 1:12 to play. Turner followed with a free throw, Mills made two and Turner threw down a dunk to make it 69-53 with 31 seconds to go.

Sheppard scored 10 points for the Wildcats, who shot 36 percent (22-of-61) from the floor and held a 54-41 rebounding advantage.

Yegor Mescheriakov scored 12 points and Iturbe had 10 and 10 rebounds for the Colonials, who shot 34 percent (24-of-70).
