CHODROFF AT IT AGAIN!

After a tremendous start, and with Fernando Tatis causing what has been called "Fernando Mania 2", attendance at Peacekeepers games was at record levels. However, recently attendance has plummeted. Peacekeeper owner Mike Chodroff, never one to give up easily, has come up with a new promotional idea. He has declared July as Gravy Baby month.

During each game in the month of July, fans will receive what Chodroff states is the "craze of the future". Chodroff, known for his entrepreneurial genius with the start of Arm-in-Arm Publishing, declares that this product will make Beanie Babies look like a fad. "Not only are they better looking, but they are also very practical," stated Chodroff. He continued "The babies, filled with radiated gravy, will last for years and could be used for nourishment in case of a nuclear war. And after the canned ham give away, we've learned not to give away anything big and hard."

Regarding the Canned Ham disaster of last season, many have questioned Chodroff's sanity, as well as his table manners. Fellow CJRL owner Bob Taylor questioned the promotion stating "Mike's got a screw loose." Franco-American spokesman Joe Bob Franklin McBride stated "We at Franco-American feel that this promotion helps with the well being of the USA, as well as helping meet the nutritional needs for generations to come. We would like to add that just because we supply all of the gravy to Mr. Chodroff, we in no way profit from this venture, as far as you know." Chef Boyardee could not be reached for comment.

TERMINATORS OWNER INJURED IN FIENDISH PLOT

After trying for years to oust CJRL Grand Pooba Larry Johnson from the league, Ladykillers owner Bob Taylor almost succeeded. With the help of Peacekeeper kin Phil Chodroff, who owns 15 percent of the team, Taylor tricked Johnson into what he called a "bungee-trampoline extravaganza", but which turned into a "Terminator-destroying death machine".

After being knocked unconscious by drugged Italian sausage, Johnson was placed in the apparatus, then launched into the next county. Fortunately for Johnson and all proponents of truth, justice, and the American way, Johnson landed in the finished goods section of the Sealy Mattress Factory in beautiful Freehold, New Jersey. An investigation is under way by the National Rotisserie Security Agency. If found guilty, Taylor could be slapped with a $3 fine and also have his parking spot at CJRL headquarters revoked. When asked to comment on this case, Judge Roy Brown stated "What a world. What a world."

TRANSACTIONS, FAAB, BID RESULTS UPDATED

The FAAB Updated Budgets and the Sealed Bid Results have been updated as of July 16th. These sites are very useful in deciding on your FAAB bids.

New this season is the Transaction site. It is broken up into First Half and Second Half transactions. We are trying to keep this up to date so there is a source to see all moves. This is very helpful when watching the waiver wire. Remember that there is a seven-day waiver period for picking up players that another CJRL team has waived, with the player going to the lowest ranked team as of the last day of the waiver period. It will also be useful to calculate your transaction fees for the first half and second half of the season. Remember that transactions cost $2.50 each before the All Star Game, and $5.00 after.

MAKING MOVES--IMPORTANT INFORMATION

One of the rule changes we made this season was the changing of the transaction cut-off from midnight to 8:00 a.m. This was done to help assure fairness for those who work at different hours. We did not forsee problems that could come from this. However, as with any rule or procedural change, unforseen problems can occur. The Bruce Chen incident brought this to our attention.

Not only did that transaction show that a problem could occur as to when a move actually took place, but it also brought to our attention that three or four teams did not understand the change. This was due to no fault on their part, as they all thought the same thing.

To make things easier so we can finish the season in a fair and consistent manner, we will follow these guidelines for the rest of the 1999 season. At that point, we can discuss the matter, and make any changes that are necessary. If you have any questions about this, please contact Bob Taylor, Larry Johnson, or Dave Wilson. However, there should not be many problems as these guidelines have been written with the input of almost every team (those who choose to call or email about it). The guidelines are as follows:

The transactions are being handled exactly like last season with one exception. You can call for players being called up on the current day from 8:00 a.m. to midnight. However, we have extended the calling time from midnight to 8:00 a.m. This still holds to the previous day's call-ups. Just because you call at 3:00 a.m. and the date is officially the 10th, calls during the "extended time" count as if they occurred on the 9th. Calls during this "extended time", midnight to 8:00 a.m., are for players who are already active or have been called up the previous day.

Bruce Chen is a good example. He was officially activated on a Friday, let's say May 12. Last season, you could have called up to midnight on May 12 for Chen. With our extended time, you could still call for Chen from midnight to 8:00 a.m. on May 13, as it still counts as the previous day. However, you can not call for him before 8:00 a.m. on May 12, as this is during that "extended time" which counts toward the previous day. The following table may be helpful:

One day example or Full week example

ANOTHER EXAMPLE: Rob Ducey is listed as brought up from the minors on ESPN's Transactions List at 7:30 a.m. for Friday, May 24. During last season, you could call for him up to midnight on Friday, May 24. If no team called for him on the day he was brought up, he could be called for at any time thereafter while he was in the Majors.

The problem that arose this year was that it is hard to tell if a player is activated at 7:00 a.m., 8:00 a.m. or whatever time. Under the new guidelines, Ducey could not be called for until after 8:00 a.m. on 5/24 because the midnight to 8:00 a.m. "extended time" counts toward the previous day.

Again, you may use any source as your information as to when a player was activated, however, if there are any questions as to the actual transaction date we will use 1) ESPN Sportszone Transactions, 2) USA Today Transactions, and 3) CBS Sportsline Transactions as the bottom-line proof of when a move occurred.

Again, it may be helpful to check out a graphical breakdown: One day example or Full week example
