INTERESTING FINISH IN CJRL ENDS "BASEBALLS BEST SEASON EVER"

The DNTs dominated the CJRL in 1998, earning their unprecedented fifth CJRL title in nine years. This is their second title in a row. The DNTs have made winning streaks a habit, having earlier won the first three CJRL seasons. A period of famine between the streaks for the DNTs had the Ladykillers, Terminators, No-Names, and Super Kings winning the coveted CJRL trophy. All of the other 12 CJRL ballclubs are hoping that the legendary Streckenbein magic will disappear for 1999. Devil Dogs owner Jim Lyons stated "I don't know if Streckenbein can do it again. I predict the Devil Dogs will party like it's 1999 next year!"

As is often the case, the two expansion teams, the Razmataz and the Hub City Skels, finished at the bottom of the standings. Tom Kaminsky of the Skels stated "We were building for the future. Next year we plan on competing for the title." When asked about his season, Razmataz owner Don Gasparro stated "Oh! We were supposed to try for first place? I thought it was like "High/Low" poker. I don't get half the pot?".

JOHNSON STATES "TERMINATORS WUZ ROBBED!"

Terminators owner Larry Johnson may have a case of sour grapes. With his team dropping from second place to third, Johnson has been berating everyone in sight. When reached at his vacation residence in the Swiss Alps, Johnson ranted "We was robbed! Taylor should thank (Art) Johnson and Gasparro for that title. They gave him Randy Johnson and Mike Piazza! How can I compete with that in such a small market? We need a luxury tax for teams like the Ladykillers!" Johnson was referring to the Ladykillers trade of Dennis Reyes and Paul Wilson to the Razmataz for pitcher elite Randy Johnson, and the move of Charles Johnson and Aramis Ramirez to the Super Kings for Mike Piazza.

Ladykillers owner Bob Taylor replied "This is nothing new for Johnson to say these things. We've had words before, and we will again. I don't know what he is whining about anyway. I'm keeping Randy Johnson next year for $35. Oops--am I locked into that now that I've made the statement to the media?"

STAT COMPANY THOUGHTS NEEDED

The 1998 CJRL season was used as an experiment, using two different stat companies. Northshore has done a reliable job for our nine seasons. This year we also used the RotoNews free stat site. We need to discuss our feelings about each site. Northshore costs roughly $35 to $40 per team per season. RotoNews is a free site, but you never know if that will remain a reality. Talk to other team owners. We should make this decision as soon as possible.

Compare the results between the two sites. There are some point differences. This could be the result of input error on Northshore's part or on our part with the RotoNews site.

If any owners from other rotisserie/fantasy leagues have experience with the RotoNews free stat site and have any information that could be helpful to us in making our decision, please email us or leave a message in our CJRL Guestbook. Thanks!
