1993 CJRL CHAMPIONS!

LADYKILLERS

Ladykillers photoThe Ladykillers, owned by Bob Taylor, became the first expansion team to win the CJRL title in 1993. The Ladykillers joined the CJRL in 1991, the second year for the league. The early years were tough ones for the Ladykillers. Rebuilding was the main concern. In 1991, their first season, the Ladykillers finished in fifth place. In their sophomore year, 1992, they finished in eighth place. The year of 1993 was the charm for the Ladykillers, as they outpaced the Super Kings for the top spot by 6 points, 56 to 50.

Ladykiller owner Bob Taylor, who is known in CJRL circles as "T-Bone", had been known to bend the rules a bit. In fact, the Ladykillers were the first CJRL team to have a rule named after them. After this public humiliation, Taylor and the entire Ladykiller management team have become upstanding citizens of the CJRL. In fact, Taylor is now actively involved in maintaining and improving the CJRL. Taylor has sure come far from the con-man type owner, of which Super Kings owner Art Johnson once stated: "He'll never last in the CJRL. We'll be running him out of town on a rail!".

Bob Taylor is also the perennial transaction champion, almost always making the most moves of any CJRL team. This penchant for making moves has garnered Taylor the nickname of "Steinbrenner", among others that will not be mentioned here. Taylor often picks up so many rookies that by seasons end he has enough players on his reserve list to field a full Triple-A team! In fact, the Ladykillers roster usually has so many current and former players that it forces the Ladykillers stat report page to go over the normal one-page limit, causing headaches for the other league owners. More than one CJRL owner has called for Taylor's ouster from the league for this reason.

The Ladykillers dominated the pitching categories that season, but were very weak in batting average and stolen bases. However, their strength in pitching and above average power were enough to carry them to the title. The following is the Ladykillers ending roster for the 1993 season:
