1990 CJRL CHAMPIONS!

DNTS

DNTs photoThe DNTs, owned by cousins Debbie Streckenbein and Larry Johnson, won the inaugural CJRL title in 1990. It was an exciting season, and it came down to the tie breaker to decide the championship, which declared the DNTs to be champions over the Foulks' Follies. The victory felt great to all in DNT management, but of course both Debbie and Larry had to feel for the Follies, as the Follies owner, Arlene Foulks, is Debbie's mom and Larry's aunt.

The Terminators built their team based on a powerful offense, including such superstars as Will Clark, Andres Galarraga, Howard Johnson, Kevin Mitchell, Ryne Sandberg. Johnson and Streckenbein also cornered the market on closers, drafting Randy Myers, Mitch Williams, Dave Smith, and Roger McDowell. However, the problem with drafting so many stars is that you have to fill-out your roster with cheap players, many for $0.25. Names like Hector Villanueva, Nelson Santovenia, Ernie Whitt, and Barry Lyons were among the lower-priced players that the DNTs needed to complete their team.

The main controversy for the DNTs in 1990 involved the harsh comments made by Super Kings owner Art Johnson regarding the DNTs trade of Cubs closer Mitch Williams to the Black Flags for Jose Rijo and Todd Zeile. Although Rijo had a great second half that year, Zeile was subpar. However, Mitch Williams fell apart during the last part of the season and was a bust for the Black Flags, who were co-owned by Larry Johnson's sister Joanne Rogers. However, during the next season, the newly-named Checkered Flags received great stats from Williams: 30 saves, 12 wins, 2.34 ERA, and 1.34 WHIP, and the DNTs lost Jose Rijo to the Ladykillers in the expansion draft.

The DNTs were dominant stolen bases and saves that year, and finished second in ERA, WHIP, and homeruns. The following is the DNT's ending roster for the 1990 season:
