About the trade that sent him to Minnesota
"Now, I’m playing where I really, really wanted to play. Not only did my dream come true, but I’m where I wanted to be, because
I’m playing with Kevin Garnett. I’m just looking forward to being there forever."
On the salary
"I'm going to let my agent handle everything, and what they (the Wolves) say
I'm worth, that's what I'll do. My word is my bond. . . .
This is the team I want to play for, this is the place I want to be at." "We're going to be together a long time"
On Garnett
"He brings my play up when I'm not playing well. And he brings a smile to my face.
You know just looking at him, because I know he's gonna goof arund and do somthing to make me laugh....
He brings a lot of fanfare to the game. You know? But not as far as that mean streak he-KG-he brings in. Like quiet, sneaky.
Laughing at you. He's laughing at you, but really telling you he's gonna kill you. He's coming at you kind of like the mob,
when hey're about to kill you [laughs].... But what he brings to the game, period-the game of basketball-is something brand-new.
And he's definitely going to be a Michael Jordan. I think him, Grant Hill, Allen Iverson, Shaquille O'Neal always"
On being a model for NBA Jam '98
"I've been playing video games for a long time and I always loved NBA Jam," Stephon says.
"To actually serve as the player model for NBA Jam '98 is a great thrill."
After being hurt 5 minutes into his rookie season
I did think I broke it, I ain't going to lie," Marbury said after limping out of the training room.
"I couldn't walk after that. ... It was like when you hit your funny bone."
"It was hard sitting on the bench watching them play, I'm just glad we won.
If we wouldn't have won, I don't think I would have been able to go to sleep."
On missing the All-Star game
"I'm mad," he said. "It's really disappointing. Everybody said,
'You should go anyway.' But I said, 'No, I just want to get ready for next week.
' Me being at the All-Star game isn't going to help with that." And you KNOW Kevin always has a somthin good to say...
"I know he's down," he said. "I told him he's going to play in so many All-Star games, he'll get sick and tired of it."
On being a point guard
"When your the Point Guard, every action causes a reaction.
You control the movement of nine other people on the court. If you take that ball right,
then nine people have to shift; If you take a left, the have to shift in a different direction .....
A good point guard is born, not made. God delivers point guards. you cant teach someone how to be a point guard,
he jus knows-it's a natural ability. God gave me a gift, and that gift is to be able to go out on the court and do the things I do.
I cant realy explain how it feels or what it is; It's somthing that just happens naturaly. I'm blessed. God has blessed me."
When being asked who was his favorite player
"Magic Johnson. I still idolize him Magic Johnson; to this day even.
And now, I'm more of Isiah (Thomas). But just Isiah 'cause of his mental toughness.
He was just so mentally tough. I know what they mean now, when they say he was tough.
Just playing hard and having guts. You can see what it's really about."
On how he developed his crossover
The things I did to work on the crossover is doing it with repetitions, over and over.
You build confidence doing it when you think you shouldn't. In the future we'll go further if we work hard,
stay focused, and continue to develop our games.
Comparing himself to Stephon of 5 years ago
"I'm a lot more mature now,"
"Life took its course. My lifestyle is totally different now. I got here with my family and the help of God."
On his rookie season
"Last year was a great experience,"
"It was all that I imagined, but it took even more energy than I thought [it would].
Having a year behind me makes a huge difference. I have more of an understanding for the game, and I'm mentally tougher."
On the new three point line
"It's better for me," "You can penetrate better with the defense moved out.
And if guys back down, you can shoot over them easier. But I'm still focused on running our offense."
