Acclaim Entertainment, a leading worldwide interactive entertainment company, today announced that Stephon Marbury, star point guard of the Minnesota Timberwolves, provided motion capture for Acclaim's next installment of its top-selling NBA Jam(TM) basketball video game series. NBA Jam '98 will be available in spring 1998 for the Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64. During a two-day session in July, the first team 1996-97 All-Rookie First Team selection donned a full-body, form-fitting lycra suit with strategically located light sensors. Marbury then performed hundreds of basketball maneuvers, including his own signature moves and dunks. Acclaim's proprietary tetherless system captures more than 50 bone rotations simultaneously at 60 frames per second -- 50% more accurate than any other motion capture system on the market -- enabling the re-creation of Marbury's performance in the video game with life-like detail. "Stephon Marbury joins an elite group of athletes who have provided motion-capture for Acclaim's sport titles, including Frank Thomas, Juwan Howard and Adrian Murrell," said Bob Picunko, marketing director for Acclaim Sports. "Stephon is universally acknowledged as a future NBA superstar. His combination of dazzling ballhandling skills and above-the-rim creativity make him the ideal model for NBA Jam '98." "I've been playing video games for a long time and I always loved NBA Jam," said Marbury. "To actually serve as the player model for NBA Jam '98 is a great thrill." Marbury wasted no time making an impact on the NBA last season as he was named All-Rookie First Team and finished second in the Rookie of the Year race. He averaged 15.8 points and 7.8 assists per game, ranking fifth and 1st respectively among rookies. The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket was originally chosen by the Milwaukee Bucks with the fourth overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft and then traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves for guard Ray Allen and a future first round pick. NBA Jam 98 features a first in a basketball video game simulation -- the combination of five on five play with the exclusive two-on-two "NBA Jam" mode. The game will feature all 29 NBA teams, arenas and players in hi-res polygonal action, with ultra-realistic coaching strategies, total team management, stat tracking and much more.
