High School
Stephon Marbury attended Abraham Lincoln HS in Brooklyn, NY. He was named High School Player of the Year by parade magazin. In 1995 he teamed with current Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett on a USA Junior Select Team.
College
At Georgia Tech Stephon became only the fifth freshman in Atlantic Coast Conference history to be named to the all-conference first team. In the second round of the NCAA tournament he scored a career high 29 against Boston College. Marbury became the first freshman to lead Georgia Tech in scoring (18.9 ppg) since Mark Price in 1982-83. He was also a unanimous selection to ACC All-Tournament team after averaging 22 points and shooting 51 percent from field in three games. After one season at college, he entered the NBA
NBA
Stephon Marbury was selected by Milwaukee in the first round (4th overall) of the1996 draft. Draft rights traded by the Bucks to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the draft rights to Ray Allen and a first-round draft choice in 1999 or 2000 on 6/26/96. He lead the Wolves to their first playoff appearance and was named to the All-Rookie first team and was the runner-up in Rookie of the Year balloting while averaging 15.8 points per game and leading all NBA rookies with 7.8 assists per game. Stephon was also named NBA Rookie of the Month in January, when he averaged 16.9 points and 8.1 assists.

1996-97
Marbury suffered a sprained right ankle after eight minutes of the season opener and missed the next seven games. After that, except for missing eight games because of a bruised right thigh, Marbury enjoyed an outstanding rookie season as he helped the Minnesota Timberwolves reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Marbury was Minnesota's starting point guard in 64 of the 67 games he played, and he led the team with 7.8 assists per game. That was tops among all rookies and 10th overall in the NBA. Marbury also averaged 15.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.00 steals in 34.7 minutes per game, and his 102 three-pointers tied James Robinson for the team lead. He finished the season strongly, averaging 17.7 ppg and 8.1 apg in April and then playing well in postseason. He matched a franchise record shared by Sidney Lowe, Pooh Richardson and Micheal Williams when he handed out 17 assists in a 122-112 win over Milwaukee on April 18, one of 52 games in which he led the Timberwolves in assists. He scored a season-high 33 points in a 107-98 win over Utah on Dec. 23, and set a rookie record with six three-pointers in a 94-89 win over New Jersey on April 2. Marbury was selected to compete in the Schick Rookie Classic at All-Star Weekend but did not compete due to a bruised thigh. Marbury averaged team-highs of 21.3 points and 7.7 assists in the three playoff losses to Houston, and also led the team with six three-pointers. He had 28 points in Game 1, 22 points in Game 2 and 14 points plus 13 rebounds in Game 3.
