The Windsor team dominated all three phases of the game, scoring a touchdown in every phase. The game was over by halftime. On the offensive side of the ball, the Windsor team was lead by Essex's Tailback Terrence Spina, who had two touchdown runs. Holy Names' Quarterback Mark Luvisotto also played well throwing for one TD. Now on the defensive side of the ball, Holy Names' Matt Petz intercepted a pass late in the second quarter for a 85 yard TD. It was a key play in the game because the score was 14-7 Windsor and London was marching. This basically put the game out of reach Terrence Spina also returned a punt for over 110 yds to close out the scoring for Windsor. He was also MVP of the match. Therefore final score Windsor All-Stars 31 London All-Stars 8.

Essex County Schools may not be able to play six year players in 1997?

7/22/96
In a sticky situation, the Essex County teams may be forced to only allow kids to play until there fifth year. This would put the Windsor teams at an advantage since there players may play for six years. The decision was made a couple of months ago and has put an odd twist on the 1997 W.E.C.S.S.A season. Most teams won't be affected drastically, but there still is a problem of uneven playing terms. Essex's Coach Ross Spettigue has been meeting with representatives from the Essex County board pleaing for a deferral of this rule until the 1998 season. There has been some progress but all will be known by the end of the summer.

Belle River Nobles wins Newman Conference Championship over Holy Names Fighting Knights

7/22/96
In the Division One Newman Conference Championship, the favourites Belle River Nobles won handidly over the Holy Names' Fighting Knights by a score of 22-1. The game was closer than the score makes it to be, as it was 14-7 Nobles going into halftime. For the Nobles, who came up from the Divison 2 Wilson Conference last year, this was there second championship in as many years. Holy Names' on the other hand have lost the last two championships themselves. The game was highly contested and the Noble's offensive line, which averaged 250 lbs, was the key all night long. Belle River's patented trap series was stopped, only to allow the Noble's to run straight ahead against a smaller line who couldn't handle the pressure. Holy Names' also forced the Noble's to pass and that worked to. Defensively, Belle River most times played a Cover One with a middle blitz which gave the Knight's QB Mark Luvisotto a headache all night long. The game ended the way it was suppposed to, but by far the Belle River team was deserving all year long. The Noble's ended up undefeated and being ranked the #1 Team at the highschool level in all of Canada. Congratulations goes out to Coach Bloomfield, his staff, and his players.

Essex Red Raiders revenge last year's season, to take the Wilson Conference over the Riverside Rebels

7/22/96
In the first championship of the day, the Essex Red Raiders were successful in taking the Division 2 Wilson Conference Championship over the Riverside Rebels. Here again the favourites won and for Coch Ross Spettigue this was sweet victory. The match was evenly contested until Essex broke away to win. The Red Raiders now advance to Divsion One and have a good chance to win there also. The Red Raiders' will not lose many starters to graduation. As for the Rebels, they put in a valiant effort and they too could have won the match. The Rebels will be favourites next year in Divison 2.

AKO's Gallant Recieves Scholarship from Division 1AA Eastern Kentucky

7/19/96
Sean Gallant, formely of the Windsor AKO Fratmen, will be heading to Eastern Kentucky University on a football scholarship. This quick defensive back is very excited about the challenge and will be part of a good squad. The Colonels are very high favourites to win the Ohio Valley Conference, where they play in. Head Coach Roy Kidd is excited about Sean Gallant and says he is a sure winner and leader. Good luck in the coming season Sean and enjoy the experience.

Both Herman Graduates, Shane Spina and Gurald Lewis are taken in 1996 CFL Draft

He presently is a defensive end for the Easterm Michigan Eagles. Eastern Michigan is part of the Mid American Conference of Division 1A. Shane Spina on the other hand will be off to the CFL Winnipeg Blue Bomber tryout camp as a defensive back. Shane was probably one of the best players to come out of the Windsor Essex County league ever. He has tremendous speed and is always a joy to watch. Good luck also goes out to these two players and the best of luck.
P.S.- Shane Spina's stint with the Blue Bombers ended with an injury. He however was picked up by the CFL Hamilton Tigercats.

Realignment of Divisions is back!!!

7/17/96
The W.E.C.S.S.A football league will shed a new look when a third division will be present for the 1997 season. The Divison 1 Newman Confernce will see the lost of two teams, both the Brennan Cardinals and the Massey Mustangs. Old faces in New Places, the movement of coaches within the league

7/17/96
It has been a hectic and crazy off season for the coaches of the W.E.C.S.S.A football league with all the movement of personell. In the first move, former Essex Offensive Line Coach Dave Little left to become Head Coach of the Division 2 Massey Mustangs. This position was left vacant by the departed Jack Penney. Essex still has yet to fill that coaching spot.

Division 1 Holy Names' Offensive Coordiantor Pat Hickson also left in order to assume that position at Division 3 Assumption. This leaves formely defensive coordinator Coach Bruce LePine with his duties, and opens the way for formely Defensive Back Coach Joe Idone to assume the defensive coordinator role.

The 1996 Division 1 Brennan Cardinal Coacing Staff has left also, leaving Geoff Owen the head coaching duties. As for former Cardinal Offensive Coordinator Mike LaChance he moves to that postion with Division 1 Belle River ( he was also hired as Receivers Coach at Windsor AKO). He leaves with his Defensive Coordiantor Q, who also moves to Belle River. Former Cardinal Head Coach Tom Adams also leaves to become Receivers Coach at Windsor AKO Fratmen.

In another move, former Division 1 Catholic Central Defensive Coordinator Jim McDougall also moves to become Division 2 Sandwich Head Coach. This also leaves Catholic Central with a vacant spot.

Division 1 Belle River's whole staff, except their head coach, also left to assume positions at Windsor AKO Fratmen. Head Coach John Bloomfield will be at the helm of both programs. Rob Bloomfield and Cain Carter will become Offensive and Defensive Coordinators respectively.

Dan Hogan, also, returns from playing at Wilfred Laurier University to become Offensive Line Coach at Divison One Kennedy.

Finally, W.E.C.S.S.A will also bettered by the return of probably one of the best coaches ever in Godfrey Janisse, who will assist with Division 1 Herman. Also joining the staff with his many years of experience is Coach John Thrasher. He will assume offensive and defensive line responsibilities.
