Lady Warriors Finish 15th out of 25 Teams at Troy; Mid-Year Report Card?

The Lady Warriors met some stiff competition at the Troy Invitational! This meet always provides that "mid-season report card" for area teams, as well as our favorite Warriors. Many of the top 15 teams were a combination of local and Cincinnati squads. Troy doesn't separate Divions either. So if you take out the Cincy teams and Divions 2-4 teams, our girls did fairly well. Right now the report card tells us our girls have a good shot at top three or four at the W.O.L. and top four shot at the District meet. A fourth place at District would earn them a trip to the Regionals, which is held on this same Troy course. The girls did not qualify last year for this second level of state competition. It's obvious that this will be a legitimate "team goal" this season. Keep it up Lady Warriors!

Rebecca Romano Paces the Girl's Reserve Team; Stefanie Helton is Second Lady Warrior for J.V. Team; Robyne Hawley Surges!

The Women's J.V. squad all ran great at Troy! What an agressive bunch! It was good to see so much determination on our girls' faces throughout the race, especially on that hill at the 2 mile mark. Rebecca Romano (9th grade) was our top J.V. finisher, but she actually ran the 5th fastest time for the girls today. Another impressive performance came from Stefanie Helton (10th grade) who ran a 24:18. How good was it? Only 12 seconds off our 7th varsity girl. If Stefanie continues to improve, she's going to challenge some of those varsity spots before the season is over! On a final note, Lizzy Benson-Landau was only 2 seconds behind Stefanie! Robyne Hawley deserves some press here! She has been running in the 30:00's until this race where she ran a 26:49 and surged to 13th best time the girls. Keep up the great work ladies!

Men's Varsity Place 13th out of 27 Teams at Troy; Brandon Baker and Michael Winghart Achieve Personal Time Barriers!

Placing 13th out of 27 teams at Troy is a real accomplishment for the men's team. Like the girls, (see article above), this meet is a good measuring stick for the rest of the season. This meet had us in the top 4 WOL teams and ranked us 3rd against District competition. If the men run this aggressive in those 2 meets (which is what they should be peaking toward), they have a great opportunity to place well as a team and make a trip back to Regionals this year. Although all the men ran well, it should be noted that Brandon Baker broke the 18:00 barrier for the first time in his running career. Michael Winghart broke the 17:00 barrier an achieved one of his personal goals for the season. Brandon ran a 17:49 and Michael a 16:50.

Chris Young Scores Varsity Points at Troy; Nick Mantia Close Behind

When you're in the Reserve Race, it's difficult to know where you are (time wise) in relation to the Varsity Race. Chris Young was the top reserve finisher, but earned the "7th man" status by running the 7th best time today. Nick Mantia was 20 seconds behind Chris, and earned the 9th best time for the Warriors today. Both ran in the 19:00's.
