* * * Yesssss! Our Ladies Are Going To Regionals! * * *
Our girls are moving on! What does a pack of 57 seconds separating our top finisher and 6th girl get you? Stumped? Well what do you get when only you take 6 places out of 15 between 21st (Tawnie Bellamy) to 36th place? Still not sure? Maybe this will help. When a freshman (Becka Romano) runs her best race (PB) of the year and your second girl (Carla Murphy) equals her PB? What about that 6th girl (Bethany Crabtree) out- sprinting 2 Greenville girls in the last 50 meters and passing 4 runners altogether? Maybe you can figure out the answer if you focus on the girl who has been Miss Consistent all year (Heidi Habecker), or the persistence of our third girl (Lisa Jamison). Okay, how about the strong finish of a good senior leader who never gives up (Cara Cashour)? Well, if you still don't know what this gets you, then put it all together and you have our Wayne girls qualifying for the Regional Championships edging out Greenville by a mere 4 points! Remember Greenville? That's the team that beat us by 80 points on the Troy Invitational course. The only difference now is Greenville is washing and turning in their uniforms this week. Wayne's girls get to run the Troy course again at Regionals! Hold the soap powder for another week moms. Our girls are gonna get dirty at least one more time! (bc)

Men's Team Capture Fourth at District Meet; Also Qualify for Regionals!
Once the girls established their Regional trip, our men were not about to be out done. Mike Winhart was determined to go to Regionals. He placed 10th overall (top 15 individual qualify). What he didn't know is if he would be taking his buddies along with him. They helped the team to fourth place trailing Greenville by only 3 points. The guys had to hold off a surging Fairborn (where did they come from) and Vandalia, who had the top finisher in the meet. It just goes to show that you may have the "best" runner, but if your next 6 don't get the job done, the team stays home! So let's recognize some of that effort. Brandon Baker placed17th and was the 7th sophomore across the line. Teammate, Michael Murphy, was 22nd and was the 2nd freshman to cross the finish. We needed a good performance from our 4th and 5th men. Tom Bertling and Robbie Miller helped decide our fate by coming in 37th and 44th. Chris Young and Nick Mantia were not far behind in 49th and 52nd. Our men will be making their second trip to Regionals in as many years. We'll be looking forward to watching them tour the fast course and placing higher than last year's squad. Best of luck men!
