Lady Warrior Varsity Shines With Third Place Finish, But J.V. Glow With Take First Place Trophy Home!
There were 26 Wayne girls running at Buck Creek in the Varsity and J.V. races. Nineteen of those ladies ran their best times of the season! Tawnie Bellamy (21:29) becomes our first girl to run under 22:00 this season. Lisa Jamison equaled her best time of 22:05. Bethany Crabtree, who ran under 22:00 once last year crept closer to doing it again by running her season best time of 22:07. Heidi Habecker was right with the pack by taking 55 seconds off her old time running a 22:15! Rebecca Romano (22:45 PB) ran under 23:00 for the first time this season and Cara Cashour (23:01) ran her fastest time of the season by 50 seconds.
In J.V. competition, Stephanie Helton was our top finisher with a 24:18. Carla Murphy (who ran an extra 200 meters by taking a wrong turn) followed her. The following girls all ran their best times of the season. The number of seconds they cut off their old personal best in parenthesis. Briana Crace (1:25), Robyne Hawley (45), Melanie Overton (10), Sally Maki (25), Nicole Simon (43), Heather Channel (6), Hillary Kemp (37), Constance Channel (1:21), Krissy Kohorst (51), Cheryl Meyer (1:37), Sara Miller (1:05), Katie McLin (2:14). Great effort girls!

Men Flex Their Muscles; Win Buck Creek Invitational
What do you get when 3 men run under 18:00, one places 4th overall, and 5 of your top 7 set new personal best times? A victory! Wayne took the CHAMPIONSHIP trophy home from the Buck Creek Invitational. Mike Winghart paced the Warriors running a 17:00 (only 10 seconds off his best time this year). Not too far behind was Brandon Baker (17:34 PB) and Michael Murphy (17:56 PB). Tom Bertling almost broke the 18:00 barrier. His 18:13 was just shy of his 18:06 PB this season. Robby Miller took 14 seconds off his PB by running a 19:10 followed by Chris Young's PB of 19:18. Congratulations Varsity! In the J.V. Race, the Warriors took the runner-up spot. Nick Mantia was Wayne's top performer in this race and nudged his way into the top seven times for the team. Out of the 12 J.V. runners, 9 established new personal best times ever! Nick lowered his time by 34 seconds, Matt Cleveland knocked 51 seconds off his best. Steve Bargo managed to deduct 10 seconds while Bryan Schenck and Dennis Martin were clipping another 22 and 20 seconds of their old times. Not to be outdone, John Hoffman took 44 seconds off his previous best ever. The biggest drops in time came from James Craig (55 seconds), Kyle Trent (1:02), and Tim Ditmer (2:01)! Excellent race to all the guys at this one!
