EFHL Newsletter #3
Hello, mere mortals. Period 3 has just ended and we have our third different winner, me. Now I realize how Rick had such a good squad last year-- just get Mario. My Tortured Souls led the period with 176 points led obviously by 66 with some help from Bondra and Modano. In a distant second for the period was World Cup Boy Rob and his Fargon Iceholes who are showing some signs of life. The once lifeless Iceholes are led by hot goal-scorers Tkachuk and Sundin.
As you all know, the top four teams based on record make the playoffs, so let's take a look at the standings. A little past the half way point of the season, my Tortured Souls are ruling in first place. At 9-4, I have won an impressive 7 games in a row, and I suppose that you all fear me as you should. Rick's Beaver Slappers and Tony's 12 Monkeys are also sitting pretty for the playoffs, tied for second at 8-5. Interestingly enough, apparently neither of these coaches feels too comfortable with his squad as they both have called for major shake-ups. Tony must have picked up the newspaper one day last week and realized his forwards sucked, so he cut 3 of them loose and picked up Daigle, Savage and some guy named R. Smyth. Days later, Rick made a trade with Rich, sending Robitaille, Yashin, Niedermayer and Blake over for Mogilny and Tverdowsky. Time will tell how these big moves pan out for these teams. Grant's Ice Dogs would hold the final spot, if the playoffs began today. At 6-6-1, the Ice Dogs are slipping, dropping four in a row.
If Grant continues his slide, he may find any of four teams challenging him. At 6-7, Tom's Cougars can explode at any time with Jagr and Francis, but a weak defense may hold him back. At 5-7-1, Brett's Free Radicals may be hurting, literally . Someday, Arnott and Koivu will come off IR, but will Brett have the moves left to activate them? Rich's Plaindrifters certainly have the firepower to comeback. At 5-8, Rich has scored more points than anyone other than me and Rick. Organ's Iceholes appear to be a long shot at 4-9, but if this hot team can string together several wins they could get back into the hunt.
Unfortunately, I really don't have anything funny to say probably because it's early Monday morning and in addition, my bowels are also backed up, putting a damper on my good mood.
A couple of final points:
The Beaver Slappers are still leading in the total points battle for the season. They have 480. My Tortured Souls are in second with 453, and Rich's Plainsdrifters are in third with 436.
Rich and Tony have the number 1, 2 defenses and the number 7, 8 offenses.
I know it's still early, but I assume that we will be doing a post- season draft, so at some point let me know if you are going to be in. Later.
