EFHL Newsletter #5
October 29, 1997
The first period has come to close. Congratulations to Bill, who wins it with 125 points. Bill edged me out by four points and Mike by six. It is still early in the season, but what we can see from the first four weeks is that this season there may not be a clear cut dominant team. Nine out of the ten teams have 98 points or more, which puts nine teams within 27 points of each other. So this season could turn out to be real interesting.
Here are your scores.
Grant 29 Mike 25
A pretty big win for me was overshadowed by the fact that my team could not do squat on Tuesday to try to win the period. Fleury finally did half decent with 6 points this week, coincidentally at the same time his autobiography, Fury, came out. He certainly has his right to not want to discuss his involvement in the situation with Graham James and Sheldon Kennedy, but I think if he did, he might sell a lot more books. If you don’t know what I am talking about, maybe you should read his book anyway.
Brett 22 Chris 14
Brett picks a good week to have an off-week. Chris is still looking to break 20 points for a week. His totals so far by week-19, 18, 18, 14. And his 69 points leave him 29 points behind the ninth place team (Tom, 98 points.)
Tony 37 Tom 24
Two weeks ago it was Hull going off for Tony with 5 goals. This week it was Selanne with 6 goals. At some point though, Tony will need some production from his other four forwards.
Charlie 35 Rich 25
Charlie, led by eight points from Yashin, wins the battle of the 0-3 teams. Evidently Charlie is not up to par with the rest of us on his hockey expertise. He dropped Trevor Linden a couple of weeks ago thinking he was dropping Jamie Linden, who was sent to the minor leagues. Trevor’s name wasn’t noticed by Charlie because his name was in a different group of players or something. I guess Charlie thought he was stupid enough to use a draft pick on a border line player. It would have been funnier, however, if Charlie would have dropped say, Pavel Bure, thinking it was Valeri Bure.
Bill 33 Rick 21
Bill was led by the resurgence of Sundin with 9 points. He also continues to get lots of goals from his defensemen, led by MacInnis (6) and Berard (5).
Here is a look at the scoring leaders-forwards and defensemen, since I need something to fill the rest of this page. Just a reminder, the second period begins today and goes four weeks until November 25. Later.
