1998-99 EFHL Newsletter #10
January 7, 1999
Last week was the highest scoring week of the season. Three teams were over 40 and only two teams were under 30. Despite losing 49-44, I was going to say that Charlie looked good for the period with his 19 points lead over Tony and I with one week to go. However I think I picked up 10 points or so last night and maybe a few more tonight.
Here is some junk, some of which I meant to put in the last newsletter, but for some reason it didn't get saved in the file that I e-mailed.
EFHL Trade?!
The first EFHL trade in over a year and the first non Rich-Rick trade in about three years occurred this week. Chris sent McCarty and Jovonovski to Bill for Verbeek and Morris. As I suspected, Bill didn't initiate the trade and probably has given up on his team. However, he (and others that have little hope of making the playoffs) should keep an unwritten rule in mind. It states that you should make a decent effort to keep your team competitive in order to maintain the integrity of the league.
Read the &@%$#*! stats
I know things won't change, but it kills me when you guys try to pick up some one recently picked up. This isn't the NFFL, where Chris consistently forgets to put moves in the stats or newsletter. Some recent examples include Charlie asking about McEachern a week after Jay had picked him up and Chris asking about Zhamov last week and Satan this week. Zhamnov has been on Rick's team for well over a month now and I even made a comment about him in a recent newsletter when he led the week in scoring. Oh well, like I said, I don't expect things to change.
Rule clarification
With the increase in suspensions, it is just a matter of time before someone tries to put a suspended player on injured reserve. Can't do it. Of course you can reserve him, but the logic here is that you should not be able to pick up another player by placing a suspended player on IR (besides the fact that the player isn't injured.)
Good pick ups
There have been some good moves in the last month or so. Here are some of them.

I don't recall this quantity of decent free agents in the past, especially in January. In fact, if you missed the auction and were only allowed to choose from unpurchased and undrafted players for your team, here is what you might have ended up with. All of these players are currently on EFHL rosters, picked up as free agents (in other words, don't try to pick up any of these guys.)

That team would be tied for second in points, 4 points out of first.
Game of the Week
Tony vs. Mike gets top billing this week. This is a must win for Mike if he wants to think about a division title. He currently trails Tony by two games plus trails in points for the tiebreaker. Tony continues to pad his EFHL best lifetime record, currently 36-16-1. That's damn good. I have the next best record, only 8 games above .500 at 29-21-3.
