Hurdling Technique for the Steeplechaser

Skill in hurdling for the Steeplechase

This page is under serious construction at the present . I hope to have it up and running by Monday July 27th.

The following are ideas for inclusion in developing the skill element in hurdling for the steeplechaser. It is essential to remember that the steeplechase is first and foremost an endurance race and that no amount of technical expertise can compensate for the lack of a good endurance base (flat running ability). In other words , as some of the Kenyan runners have shown us - there are no points to be gained for technical merit or artistic impression - first past the post is the winner.

Whilst I can appreciate that it can sometimes be difficult to visualise what the written word attempts to portray ,I hope that the following descriptions will be clear enough for you to get the basic ideas.

Warm up

Easy jogging ,stretching ,striding leading to a full running action.

Hurdle Walkovers

8 - 12 hurdles placed 1m - 1m 15 cms apart ,76cms high
