GULLIT QUITS

Ruud Gullit has thrown in the towel as Newcastle boss excactly one
year after promising "sexy football"

Ruud Gullit has sensationally resigned as Newcastle manager in a press conference this
morning. The pressure has been piling up on Gullit for a long time now, and it finally
got the better of the Dutchman.
It was a string of poor results that was one of the reasons the flamboyant Dutchman gave for
ending his contract with the club. But it was the persistant intrusion into his private life that
he cited as being one of the main factors.
The board are not going to rush in to making a new appointment, and number two, Steve Clarke,
will be in charge for the trip to Old Trafford for Monday's clash against Man United.
Following that match there is a two week gap in Premiership games, and the board will take
their time in deciding on a new manager, although former England boss, Bobby Robson,
is a likely candidate.
