GREGORY IT ISN'T

Aston Villa chairman Mr. Doug Ellis makes it perfectly clear in this
statement released early this afternoon
I was extremely surprised to see yesterday’s press comments inferring that there had been
a disagreement between myself and John after Saturday’s game.
I did speak to John after the game on Saturday as I usually do and congratulated him on the result
but was not aware that I had said anything contentious. John and I met last night to discuss the
press comment which we both believe has misconstrued the position and believe the whole
thing is a storm in a teacup.
We have had a great start to the season although John and his team will be mindful of the
results in the second half of last season. We all believe that John has laid foundations to
avoid a repetition this year.
I am assured that the press speculation about Newcastle United is just that and no contact
has been made by John or that Club. In any event any approach would be rejected
immediately. John’s future is with Aston Villa where he continues to receive the full
support of myself and the Board.
