Newcastle Dominate,
But
No Three Points....
Again

Yet again
Newcastle have dominated in an FA Carling Premiership match but failed
to
take maximum
points. We were by far the better side against Everton but the points
were shared,
and again today at Vicarage Road we outclassed the opposition but
failed to take
advantage.
It's not as
if we didn't have chances though. Goalscoring machine Silvio Maric had
one cleared
off the line, and Alan Shearer had a header come back off the post.
Bobby Robson
had more injury woes, Duncan Ferguson will probably be out for
another two
weeks after injuring a calf while jumping for a ball in training. Didier
Domi was also
out after injuring an ankle while on French Under 21duties.
Noberto Solano
was also left out after returning late from an international friendly
for Peru.
Contraversial
Brazilian Fumaca was given a seat on the bench, BR saying he needed
to know how
the South American performs in first team football before making
and decisions
about signing him when his loan period expires next week.
After Watford
had spurned the first two half-chances of a low-key opening through
Micah Hyde
and Gifton Noel-Williams, Robson was forced into a further reorganisation
as Kevin Gallacher
limped off after eight minutes to be replaced by Temuri Ketsbaia.
The quality
of service remained poor, with a general lack of width, and both sets
of strikers
were being left to forage for scraps, with Alan Shearer again having
to play with
his back to goal.
Franck Dumas
and Ketsbaia tried their luck from long range with weak shots and
it was not
until the first penetrating cross of the game on 25 minutes
that Shearer
almost scored.
Ketsbaia swung
the ball over from the left and the centre-forward directed a powerful
header against
the foot of the post and out to safety.
Newcastle improved
in the second half, dominating possession, with Watford having
to settle for
the counter attack.
But they did
so with devastating effect on 54 minutes.
Gravelaine
played a through-ball into the path of Ngonge and, as keeper
Steve Harper
rushed out to block the midfielder's path, the ball spooned up
into the air
to Noel-Williams.
The striker
headed it goalwards and, with more than a strong hint of offside, there
was Ngonge
waiting to seize on the chance and nod the ball into the unguarded net.
However, within
five minutes Newcastle were level as Nikos Dabizas reacted to his
failure to
play a one-two following a corner by lifting the ball over a challenge
and
then rifling
a powerful shot into the far corner.
