Warren Barton
Warren was once the most expensive
defender in Britain after Kevin Keegan payed Wimbledon four million for
him in July '95. It was a huge step up from the day he joined Maidstone
United from Leytonstone & Ilford for £10,000 in 1989. His obvious
talent sparked a transfer rush, and Warren joined Wimbledon for £300,000
less than a year later.
His energetic, non-stop style
of play brought him two England B caps and three full caps, the last two
in 1995, after he moved to Newcastle.
His usual position is right
back, but has been known to play on the left or in midfield.
