Gary Speed
The current captain
of Wales was signed for £5.5 million in February 1998 from Everton.
Gary is a goal scoring midfield player who initially struggled at Newcastle
but has since been switched into the centre of midfield which has given
him a new lease of life.
He scored 21 goals
for Everton in 77 matches after moving from Leeds for £3.5 million
in July '96, where he had scored 39 goals in almost 250 appearences.
He has 3 Under 21
caps for his native Wales, and 44 full caps. He made his international
debut against football power-houses Costa Rica in May 1996.
