Marcelino, as he prefers
to be known, made his league debut in the 1993-'94 season for his home
town club of Sporting Gijon before moving to Real Mallorca in 1996 in a
deal worth around £200 000.
He was a virtual
ever-present as a central defender making over 100 appearances, playing
a crucial role in last seasons Cup-Winners Cup campaign where Mallorca
lost to Lazio in the final.
He has 5 international
caps, the latest coming in Spain's 2-2 draw against Italy in Salerno last
November.
Made his Newcastle
debut in opening game of 1999/2000 season in home defeat by Aston Villa.
