  Signed in 1998 from Stoke City, Andy Griffin has made significant strides very early in his career. Having made his Stoke debut in the home match against Portsmouth in late October 1996 he went on to play in every subsequent game of the season. He signed a three year contract with Stoke in February 1997 but continued to be linked with a move to the Premiership and the Magpies beat off Leicester among others for his signature. 
  Andy jumped at the chance to join Newcastle United and signed a four-year deal. He made his Premiership debut against West Ham but missed the FA Cup campaign because of one appearance in the competition for Stoke. 
  He is a solid defender who can play down both flanks and loves to get forward at every opportunity.
