Is it an OMEN ? The Lightning opened their season on a brisk April morning against the Quad Cities Hitmen. It was not pretty. The Hitmen also were pretty dang good on the mound. Eleven Lightning batters struck out, five on call three strikes. Lightning scored one run on a total of two hits, both by Nick E.
The String Continues !! The Cedar Rapids Reds scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Lightning despite solid batting by Andy O. and Blake Z. Andy went 2 for 3 with a single and double, knocking in one run and scoring another. Blake slapped two singles driving in two runs. The Lightning struck out a total of three times, two of those on call 3's. Jason B. pitched 2 innings total giving up 5 runs on 5 hits while walking 3 Reds. Jordan F. pitched the final 4 innings giving up just 2 runs, both unearned in the 6'th inning.
Mariners Go Down The Hiawatha Mariners proved no match for the Lightning sticks to close out the Hitter's Spring Tournament. Hungry for their first victory, Blake Z. and Ben M. both went two for three at the plate. Ben M. pitched 3 innings giving up just one hit while walking no one. Joe H. closed down the Mariners for 3 innings, striking out two and walking two.
The Lightning even their record at 2 wins, two loses, squeaking by the Cedar Hills Heat 7 to 6. Jason B. led the Lighting attack going 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles. Pitching for the Lightning were Ben M, Nick E, and Andy O. Ben M. struggled through the first inning, facing 16 batters, giving up 4 hits including a homerun. He also walked five batters yielding 5 runs. Nick E. pitched 2 innings, giving up two hits, and walking three batters while striking out 1. Andy O pitched the final 2 and 2/3 innings giving up no runs, no hits, and striking out 6.
Thunder "reigns" over The Lightning on the second game of the Cougar Classic. With the outfield fence at only 190 feet the Thunder jerked three home runs off Andy O. Bazooka Bohannon went 2 for 3 with two singles, while Matt O. collected his first hit of the year in the third inning. The Lightning went home to think on it, after being demolished by the Thunder 11-0.
Indians Tomahawk the Lightning in the six'th inning scoring 4 runs to overcome a three run deficit defeating the Lightning 8-7 in the final game of the Cougar Classic. Blake Z. led the Lightning with 3 singles and Adam N. went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles.
