Complete tournament Round Up

Mar10 Round 14

  • Anand wins against Adams in a beautiful Nimzo-Indian game. Talk about total domination! Anand got the extra half-point he needed to get joint second with Kramnik. Way to go!! See you all at Amber! Watch this space for coverage.

Mar08 Round 13

  • Anand draws with Svidler in a sicilian game after only 22 moves. Didn't look like like they ventured out of book for long. Tomorrow is the last round and Anand faces Adams.

Mar07 Round 12

  • Anand draws with Kramnik. Meanwhile, Kasparov snatched a draw when he looked really down against Adams. With 9.5, he has already sealed his first place. Can Anand tie with Kramnik for second? Anand faces Svidler next. Hope for a repeat of their earlier meeting.

Mar06 Round 11

  • Anand bounces back with an amazing win over Topalov. Poor Topalov, he remains winless in this tournament thus far. Those of you who have a chance should go over the game. Check out the piece sacrifices! Anand faces the Kramnik next.

Mar05 Round 10

  • Anand Loses to Kasparov, in a complicated ending. B+N vs N. What do us mortals know about these positions? Another Black, another win for Kasparov! He has been incredible in Linares thus far. Anand faces the Bulgarian GM Topalov next.

Mar03 Round 9

  • Anand draws with Leko. Leko got into time trouble, but that was not enough for Anand to win. Meanwhile tournament leader Kasparov notched another win over Ivanchuk, and Kramnik won too! (Everyone is beating up Svidler.) So Anand is now in third place

Round 9 Standings (courtesy of ICC)
          1 (7.0) Kasparov
          2 (5.5) Kramnik
          3 (5.0) Anand
          4 (4.5) Adams
        5-6 (4.0) Leko Topalov
        7-8 (3.0) Ivanchuk Svidler

Mar02 Round 8

  • Anand draws with Ivanchuk. There was quite a bit of trouble at the official Linares site, and the results were delayed. Meanwhile Kasparov won to score 6.0 in 8 rounds.

Mar01 Round 7

  • Anand draws with Mickey Adams, in a Sicilian (Flohr) game. At the conclusion, it seemed like Anand had the better position, but probably not enough to win.

Feb27 Round 6

  • Anand Wins! The first win of the tourney. Peter Svidler got blown away in this Grunfeld defence game. Definitely worth a look.

Kasparov drew today, and Kramnik won. Kramnik and Anand have mirrored their performaces thus far, round after round.

Feb26 Round 5

  • Another round, YET another draw. It is difficult to win against Kramnik, of that there should be no doubt. But does he want to win?

Quite the opposite, when it comes to the World Champ. Kasparov hunted and vanquished the erstwhile leader, Adams, to become the clear leader with 3.5/5. You have to admire the guy. Garry, we salute you.

Feb25 Round 4

  • Another round, another draw. What happened to the Anand was gathering all those scalps in Wijk aan Zee? In today's game, Anand was in full control (Sicilian) with White until time control. Topalov seemed to be in time trouble, but played the correct moves time and again, and actually emerged with an advantage. Towards the end of the marathon (over 6 hours!) game, it was Anand who was searching for the draw.

Adams won again today, to become clear leader with 3/4.

Feb23 Round 3

  • In what Mig calls 'the highest rated game in the world' the top 2 players Anand and Kasparov called it a draw. As Black, Anand accepted the Queen's Gambit, and apparently switched the move order by playing a Qd6. This sent the world champ into a long think. When the smoke finally cleared, it was a draw.

Feb22 Round 2

  • Anand draws with white pieces against Peter Leko. Leko was the only one who lost in round 1. Anand is now 1.0 after 2 rounds. Kasparov was the only winner in this round. This makes Anand tie for second place with 3 others.
Round 2 standings (courtesy of ICC)
      1-2 (1.5) Adams Kasparov
3-6 (1.0) Anand Kramnik Svidler Topalov
      7-8 (0.5) Ivanchuk Leko

Feb21 Round 1

  • Anand drew with Ivanchuk. There were 3 draws today, and the only winner was Mickey Adams, who is leading by a margin of 0.5.
