Match observations:
Another edition of Saturday Night Explosion is in the books, and what a show we had tonight! Great Lakes Wrestling is showing more and more every week that we are something special and we are here to stay! A terrific night of action with
a few twists and turns made this a show to remember!
The night started out with The Extremists, all 5 of them, strolling down to the ring for an interview. Basically what was said was a lot of trash talk in the direction of the Armstrong Family and Ken Shamrock. However, what Lance Storm
and his boys didn't expect was GLW President Ryan Niemiller coming down and telling Lance Storm that not only would he be facing Ken Shamrock at Slam Masters: Crunch Time, but that in our main event tonight, Lance Storm & Jonny Storm were
going to have to face Brad Armstrong & Ken Shamrock in tag team action! This night started off with a bang, that's for sure!
Our opening contest featured a GLW debut, and that man was "The New F'N Show" Jerry Lynn, taking on K.C. McCulloch. McCulloch is a fine wrestler, but Jerry Lynn is a champion in various wrestling organizations around the globe, and he
made an impressive debut tonight, getting the victory over McCulloch in fine fashion.
In our next match we had Erik Watts taking on Pierre Oulette. Both of these guys are veterans of the wrestling ring and have made the rounds, but they both look to have found a home in Great Lakes Wrestling. For two guys you wouldn't
expect to put on a stellar match, they didn't do bad. For a big man, Oulette is a gifted athlete. This match could have realistically went either way, but tonight just happened to be Oulette's night, as he picks up the win with the
Cannonball. Watts may have taken the fall tonight, but he'll certainly be back to fight another night.
Rob Carlin & Air Paris haven't had much success in the singles ranks thus far in the GLW, so they decided to give teaming up a shot. The New Powers of Pain thought that they would have an easy match here against these two inexperienced
tag wrestlers, but boy were they in for a rude awakening! It was obvious that the NPOP greatly underestimated their foes which is something you just can't do as the unlikely team of Carlin & Paris picked up the win in what has to be
called an upset.
The Television Title is one of the most difficult titles to hold, because you have to defend it every week and every supercard, so you have no time to rest! With the match that we had tonight for the TV Title, Indiana Kidd Jr. must wish
that he had some rest! Indiana Kidd Jr. put his title on the line against Steve Boz, who of course is under a lot of fire for allegedly attacking Gutterboy about a month ago. Despite all of that controversy surrounding him, Steve Boz was
focused on winning this title as he knew how much it meant. On the flipside, wanted to keep his title badly. You put those two elements together with these guys' skills, and you have yourself a simply phenominal match. This match had
near fall after near fall after near fall. This match was as near perfection as you can get, but somebody had to lose. In the end of a terrific match, Indiana Kidd Jr. reversed the Boz Blast attempt and hit the Indiana Bomb to pick up
the victory and earn the right to retain his title. If things couldn't get worse for Steve Boz, after the match, Gutterboy ran in and paintbrushed him with a steel chair! That Cage Match at Slam Masters is going to be brutal!
Rhino plus a meanstreak equates to bad news for Great Lakes Wrestling superstars.
This week's victim? "Iron" Mike Sharpe. Sharpe tried his mightiest, but he was simply no match for the brute strength of Rhino. The Gore puts this one in the bag.
Midwestern champion Doc Dean once again had a plan to escape once again with his title in tow, but boy did it ever backfire on him tonight! He once again came out on crutches and claimed that he was injured and thus couldn't defend his
title against Mark "The Shark" Schrader for the second consecutive week. However, GLW President Ryan Niemiller had others plans. Not only did Niemiller say that Brian Adias would once again take Dean's place, but if Adias lost, Schrader
would win Dean's Midwestern Title! Dean was livid, but the President had spoken and spoken clearly!
If that wasn't enough to make Doc Dean angry, how the match played out would not make him any happier. Adias dominated the early part of the match with Dean's encouragement, but Mark Schrader really started to turn on the heat later in
the match. Dean must have felt his title slip away so once again he tried to get involved. He took his crutch and once again tried to belt Schrader with one of his crutches, but Schrader moved and Dean nailed Adias! Schrader knocked
Dean off the apron and then hit Adias with the Schrader-plex. Three seconds later, we had ourselves a new Midwestern champion! Congratulations to Mark "The Shark" Schrader!
The Extremists just don't stop, do they? The Armstrongs, Steve & Scott, have once again been screwed out of a match by Ace Darling & Devon Storm, but this time, they cost them the World Tag Team Titles! The Armstrongs were rolling and
appeared to have the Headhunters on the ropes when they attacked Steve Armstrong on the outside while the ref was trying to get one of the Headhunters out of the ring. They didn't just attack Steve Armstrong--they knocked him out cold
with a pair of chairs! They tossed Steve back into the ring where Headhunter A (we think) locked on a bearhug and the ref had no choice but to call the match. The Headhunters retain thanks to Ace Darling & Devon Storm.
Many people aren't sure of Steve Boz's integrity these days, but one thing nobody doubts is his skills in the ring. After wrestling a grueling match earlier in the night and narrowly missing winning the Television Title, he was selected
to wrestle in the GLW original, the Wildcard Match! He wasn't fighting a slouch by any means as he had to go up against Gran Hamada! Hamada is a superstar, no bones about it, but Steve Boz gave him quite a run for his money. Nobody in
the building (myself included) thought that Boz was going to last as long as he did, especially after that vicious chair shot he received from Gutterboy earlier, but he gave it his all, but he fell just short as Hamada took the win with
Swinging DDT. A helluva match though, and a great effort by Steve Boz.
Masato Tanaka hasn't been World champion long, but he's already proving to be a fighting champion, tonight putting his belt on the line against Sebastian P. Sterling. This was a great match, but it turned out it was all just a setup.
Apparantly Sterling was being paid by The Perfect Creation to soften the champion up a bit by keeping the match going as long as possible. Tanaka fought off Sterling and the interference of Mike White and was about to nail the Roading
Elbow, but "Greatness Himself" came out of nowhere and broke a 2 x 4 right over Tanaka's back! The ref obviously called for the disqualification, but the beating was not over yet. Sterling & TPC put the boots to the World champ, hitting
him with both a Sterling Suplex and a Spinning Northern Lights Bomb before Gran Hamada ran in and made the save once again. Hamada & Tanaka have apparantly formed a friendship here, which could be a very wise idea with all of the heel
alliances popping up in the GLW. As Tanaka & Hamada were leaving the ring, Big Titan jumped out of the crowd and belted Tanaka in the face with a chair! He then booted Hamada in the gut and then put him right through a table with a huge
Power Bomb! Titan is certainly putting himself in a very good position as we approach Slam Masters: Crunch Time.
Main event time, and boy was it explosive (no pun intended)! Lance & Jonny Storm were none too happy having to meet Brad Armstrong and "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock in tag team action tonight, and it showed early on as
both Lance & Jonny seemed very heistant to get into the ring, especially with Shamrock. Finally things got rolling, and it was almost all Armstrong & Shamrock. Things looked bad for The Extremists until Ace Darling & Devon Storm arrived
on the scene. They didn't get involved initially, but their presence was distraction enough to give Lance Storm & Jonny Storm the upperhand. Eventually, Lance locked his new finisher, the Maple Leaf, on Ken Shamrock and may have gotten
the submission, but Brad Armstrong broke it up. Next both Lance and Shamrock made their respective tags. Armstrong came out a house of fire and probably had Jonny Storm down for the 3 count, but Dawn Marie had the ref's attention. This
allowed Ace Darling & Devon Storm to enter the ring and plant Brad Armstrong with a double DDT. Jonny Storm then hit the Split Legged Moonsault and got the 3 count. Tonight The Extremists pulled a fast one, but will they be able to do
the same at Slam Masters: Crunch Time? Only time will tell.
